Adoption Counselor / Behavior Team Member Job at Humane Society of Summit County
The Humane Society of Summit County is now accepting applications for a part-time or full-time Adoption Counselor / Behavior Team Member. The primary responsibility of this position is to counsel potential adopters in selecting a pet that fits their lifestyle, discuss the responsibilities of pet ownership, show animals to prospective adopters, give information about specific animals, and explain the adoption process. This person will also be cross trained to help drive our Mobile Adoption Center to locations throughout Summit County to host adoption events, offsite along with other duties.
Another aspect of this position is to help staff the Welcome Center, where you will help the community with general questions and guidance in various situations.
You will also be part of the HSSC Behavior Team, where you will be trained to help with enrichment and assisting in overseeing the behavior needs of the shelter animals.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualities:
- Must have open or flexible availability, including weekends.
- HSSC mirrors the ASPCAs position statement on Training Aids and Methods. Successful candidates will understand modern science-based animal training methods.
- Have at least one of the following preferred: 1+ years experience teaching group classes, private lessons, or behavior consulting (with professional & client references) AND/OR have earned KPA CTP, CPDT-KA or higher, or other comparable R+ training certification from an independent organization
- Must possess an Ohio’s driver license with an insurable driving record.
- Minimum Experience Preferred: One-year related animal care experience and/or animal behavior training.
- Function comfortably and efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment.
- Creative, energetic and a self-starter.
- Experience working with animals.
- Ability to relate well to others.
- Positive attitude.
- Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, and handling.
- Comfortable driving a large vehicle (training provided).
- Acceptable criminal background history.
