Job Description:

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible for practicing nursing to include conducting examinations and writing prescriptions. Within physician - APRN collaborative agreement, the APRN exercises autonomy in medical decision-making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services with no supervision requirement. May practice in several specialty areas including occupational medicine, surgery, urgent care, family/internal medicine and specialty.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

This document defines major job responsibilities and performance expectations and serves as a tool for performance evaluation. However, it is not intended to be all-inclusive as other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Provides daily medical management and treatment of patients at the Practice.
  • Provides clinical services to patients, including diagnosis, treatment and referrals to other providers to ensure appropriate coordination and continuity of care.
  • Participates in the establishment of and complies with BMA/BCHS policies, procedures, guidelines, and medical protocol necessary to provide patient care.
  • May perform physical exams to include, but not limited to: Routine examinations, Department of Transportation (DOT) examinations, Post-Offer Examinations, Executive Physicals, and Annual Examinations.
  • Complies with BMA/BCHS policies, procedures and pricing.
  • Utilizes program forms/computer system for charting.
  • Complies with case management protocols.
  • Agrees to assist with the Practice’s quality assurance and quality improvement plan.
  • Works with Administration to ensure that the Practice operates in a manner consistent with appropriate medical policy and current professional standards.
  • Participates in community events and periodic marketing activities as time permits. It is understood that, on occasion, these duties may fall outside of regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Maintains appropriate telephone contact with patients, payers and pharmacies.
  • Provides documentation that reflects the patient services actually performed and assigns CPT and diagnosis codes that are reflective of such patient services.
  • Works with Collaborative Physician and/or Medical Director to ensure correct protocol and procedures are followed.
  • Maintains CPR Certification.

1.) Complies with BMA BCHS policies, procedures and pricing.

2.) Complies with clinical protocols.

3.) Complies with quality assurance and quality improvement.

4.) Participates in chart reviews and staff education when appropriate and maintains continuing education requirements.

1.) Works with administration to help assure that the management program operates within appropriate medical policies/procedures.

2.) Gives feedback regarding treatment protocols.

3.) Participates in community events and public relations when appropriate.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job.

  • BSN required; MSN required.
  • Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner from an approved nurse practitioner program.
  • Eligible at all times to be insured for professional liability.
  • Current valid and unrestricted license to practice as an APRN in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • BLS Certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual Discrimination –This position requires visual acuity and color vision.
  • Hearing – This position requires the ability to hear normal sounds with some background noise
  • Strength - Moderate to heavy lifting, possibly exceeding 50 pounds
  • Mobility - Stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, and standing required
  • Manual Dexterity – Ability to perform small motor tasks needed to enter data in computers and in using equipment or supplies.

  • Concentration – This position requires constant ability to concentrate on details with frequent interruption.
  • Attention Span – This position requires the ability to constantly attend to tasks or functions until their completion.
  • Conceptualization – This position requires the individual to frequently understand and relate to concepts behind specific ideas.
  • Memory – This position requires the individual to be able to constantly remember task/assignment given to self or others during the course of a shift. Must be able to frequently remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others during the course of a day, as well as over long periods of time.
  • Communication – This position requires the individual to have the ability to constantly communicate verbally using advanced level vocabulary and medical terminology.
