Harvard University Employees Credit Union (HUECU) is seeking a dynamic, energetic employee with outstanding communications skills and a passion for customer service! Our ideal candidate will focus on providing an exceptional customer experience in all member touch-points: in person, phone interactions, and digital communications. In addition, they will be responsible for assisting the branch manager at our Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) branch, and for providing timely, accurate service to all members.


The Assistant Manager will provide coaching, and training for employees and is the main point of contact for escalated member enquiries.

Position Description

As a key leadership position, the Assistant Manager leads by example, and is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the branch, and running the branch in the absence of a manager. Operational responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Opening and closing the branch
    • Supervising the daily balancing of the branch and ATM
    • Ordering branch cash and office supplies
    • Assisting in creating and enforcing security protocols designed to protect our employees, members, and financial institution
    • Lead the formal and informal training, coaching, and mentorship to Member Services Representatives (MSRs) at all levels. Coordinate with the Training team to ensure formal training is meeting the needs of the team.
    • Assist Branch Manager with resolving personnel problems as they arise; escalate issues to Branch Manager as appropriate
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on transaction processing and member service interactions related to all products and services offered by HUECU
    • Evaluate existing Credit Union operating methods and procedures and implement improvements
    • Contribute to employee performance reviews and offer recommendations for staff promotions based on knowledge of training and development
    • Assist Branch Manager with preparation of team meetings
    • Responsible for supporting Member Services Representatives with difficult members, and complex member cases; main point of contact for escalated member cases.
    • Responsible for increasing member satisfaction through problem resolution and in HUECU Surprise and Delight program
    • Develop strong working relationships within the community with a focus on member retention and growth
    • Serve as a main point of contact with Business Applications and IT team members for troubleshooting routine systems issues, and assist the managers in resolving complex and on-going system issues
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all Credit Union systems utilized by the Retail Group
    • Complete required annual training for Bank Secrecy Act (BSA); responsible for accurately completing Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs), adhering to the Customer Identification Program (CIP) Policy, reporting suspicious activity to the BSA Officer, performing Office of Foreign Assists Control (OFAC) inquires, Completing BVS compliance courses, and Branch Robbery Procedures
    • May need to travel at late notice to provide coverage at any branch, depending on the needs of the business.
    • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

The following qualifications are the minimum threshold for which a candidate must meet in order to be considered for this role.

  • High school graduate
  • A minimum of two years of related banking/credit union experience required
  • Must be eligible to become a registered Notary Public

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and motivate others
  • Familiarity with federal and state banking regulations
  • Outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills
  • Proven customer service skills and the ability to problem solve
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred
  • Comfort working in the diverse and multicultural environment of Harvard University and affiliate organizations
  • Saturday hours and extended branch hours are required on a rotational basis based on branch and Credit Union needs
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods of time

Interview and onboarding activity for this position may be conducted via telephone & Zoom video conferencing, based on the department’s current presence on campus.

Harvard University Employees Credit Union (HUECU) is an on-campus community and all positions are based in Boston and Cambridge.


The majority of jobs at HUECU are hybrid remote/office. During the initial 90-day training period, new employees may be expected to work in the office more frequently, up to full time. When appropriate, remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered (CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT). Schedule

M-F, 7 hrs per day/35 hrs per week default schedule BUT additional hours may be required based upon the business needs of the department, either early/late weekdays or weekend hours. Attendance at after hours meetings and events will be expected and this position is overtime eligible and part of the bargaining unit. The shift for this role will be discussed during the interview process.
