The Assistant Manager of Production - Laundry provides assistance to the Manager of Production with the implementation of strategy for all plant-based production within Laundry Operations.
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
Provides assistance to the Manager of Production with the implementation of strategy for all plant based production within Laundry Operations. In addition, provides daily assistance by overseeing production, directing staff and ensures implementation of departmental policies, procedures and programs. Oversees daily operations of team to achieve productivity, service, and quality standards, and goals. Helps drive the process and can oversee all plant operations including contributing to and communicating plans to drive plant operations and services as needed. Typically works on projects with focus on the creation of systems, processes and programs for the linen production. Has familiarity with Mission Operations - Laundry budget and manages team spend to meet budget targets. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 3 – 12 months.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Responsible for all production requirements, and metrics, within the laundry operation.
Ensure the overall management and day to day production follow the applicable contracts in force
Assists with assigning and coordinating the operational resources and plant layout required to execute each project and conducts meetings with staff.
Focuses on individual and plant soiled and clean linen production goals to achieve budgeted expense and margin requirements.
Ensure the right quantity and quality of products is sent to customers, based on contract requirements, or orders received. Provides assistance with monitoring the employees work and product quality, providing feedback and resolving issues. This includes all end of shift cleaning requirements.
Maintains a safe and orderly work environment that will ensure compliance with Government regulations and Goodwill Industries’ policies.
Consistently communicate and implement policies and procedures; following up with any concerns from the team.
Assure the JOW Laundry production floor operates within required safety standards
Provides assistance to the Manager of Production with reviewing and analyzing report data and other documentation with the ability to share insight and submit action plans to leadership.
Supervise, train, promote and maintain disciplinary and performance appraisals on all supervisors within the JOW facility.
Trains, develops and counsels staff to achieve efficiency and waste and expense metrics within the work area of responsibility by using and sustaining Kaizen, 5S Workplace, and team manufacturing principles for both the clean and soiled side of the plant.
Provide back up to the Manager of Production and the Supervisors in case of emergencies, illness or vacation time.
Leading and Developing Talent: Responsible for input on pay, performance appraisals, work schedules, day-to-day personnel issues, discipline and hiring. Actively networks and sources for positions within the team.
Project and Change Management: Periodically serves as a team member or subject matter expert for formal project or within the department. Contributes ideas and helps develop solutions while balancing demands of project work and routine job responsibilities. Supports management in the implementation of change. Engages effectively in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.
Problem Solving: Implements production and develops best practices. Provides oversight to staff, including advanced problem solving and customer service. Utilizes strong people skills to solve team issues. Resolves basic and moderately complex operational problems, elevating them to the manager as appropriate.
Technical Skill: Has understanding of subject matter and demonstrates advanced knowledge of field along with the in-depth ‘why’s’ and supervisory experience. Has interpersonal skills in dealing with management and other departments.
Community Engagement: Champions Goodwill’s community engagement initiatives. Is aware of Goodwill’s community partner organizations and participates in volunteer opportunities as pertains to role and interest. Participates in industry/knowledge groups.
Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of college education or experience equivalency. A minimum of 5 years’ experience, or 2 years managerial experience. Production, or operational experience is a plus.
The ability to follow state laws and Goodwill Industries policies and regulations applicable to the operation including accredidation standards.
Ability to organize and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work varied schedules and flexible hours on 1st shift and weekends as scheduled.
Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to accurately perform tasks under stressful conditions.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:
