Nature of Work
The Department of Biostatistics and Informatics (BIOS) at the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the tenure track. The ColoradoSPH strives to promote diversity and equity and to be a model of inclusive excellence. Faculty and students in the department apply analytic methods, statistical reasoning and information management techniques to the design and analysis of studies in medical and public health. Professional and research activities include the design and analysis of basic, applied and translational research and clinical trials, statistical consulting, developing of new statistical methods, disease information services, research databases and more.
The Colorado School of Public Health is a collaborative endeavor involving the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz), Colorado State University (CSU), and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Supervision Received
The faculty member will be supervised by the Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics. The Chair of Biostatistics and Informatics and other faculty in DBI are available for mentorship and guidance.
Supervision Exercised
This position can have supervisory responsibilities with early-career research instructors, PRAs, or graduate research assistants seeking PhD degrees.
Examples of Work Performed
Responsibilities for the faculty member include teaching, mentoring graduate students and developing a research portfolio. The research portfolio will involve both collaborative and methodological research. In collaboration with other investigators the successful candidate will be involved in preparation of grant applications and analysis and publication of data generated from funded studies.
The position offers attractive career perspectives for talented and highly motivated individuals who have a strong interest in statistical and computational methods. The candidate is expected to have and/or develop an independent research career which must be highly collaborative and innovative with a focus on excellence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research
  • Strong programming skills in a common statistical software package (such as SAS, R, S-Plus, Python, MATLAB and/or SPSS)
  • Good organizational skills across individual projects, managing own workload
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work with biomedical investigators and colleagues in the DBI, CSPH and more broadly with other units on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
  • Ability to contribute to the growth and development of the DBI and CSPH
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
Salary and Benefits
The salary / salary range for this position has been established at $110,000- 130,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, rank, internal equity, experience, education, and area of expertise. The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • PhD degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, applied mathematics or related fields, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • 3+ years’ research experience.
  • Evidence of independent research through publications as first or senior author.
Preferred Requirements
  • 2+ years’ experience in causal inference with potential application areas being health disparities, data science, genomics, computational neuroscience, medical image analysis, spatial statistics, optimization theory, database management, distributed computing, and machine learning.
  • Evidence of independent research through publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead the biostatistical design and analytic elements of clinical or translational research projects.
