POSITION SUMMARY:
The Hotchkiss School seeks an Annual Fund Associate Director, known internally as Associate Director of The Hotchkiss Fund, to join the Alumni & Development team and play a key role in advancing the School’s first large-scale comprehensive campaign in thirty years. The successful candidate will be a mission-driven, exceptional, experienced professional. Reporting to the Director of The Hotchkiss Fund, the Associate Director works with colleagues in advancement services, leadership gifts, planned giving, donor relations, alumni and parent engagement, communications, and academic/co-curricular program partners. Hotchkiss’s annual giving program is a dynamic, aggressive, program that raises over $6.5 million/year and ranks amongst the top in the country in terms of dollars raised per constituent. The Associate Director interacts regularly with volunteers, donors, and campus colleagues and must, above all, be committed to working collaboratively to achieve departmental and School goals.
- Recruit, train, and manage class agents (parents and/or alumni) representing assigned classes and support these volunteers through accurate and timely communications and reporting.
- Coordinate and implement, with the assistance of the Director, an annual fundraising plan for assigned classes.
- Assist with the formulation and execution of innovative strategies for increasing donors and dollars for annual giving.
- Set up annual appeals and solicitations (both mail and digital), including the Day of Giving, for all constituents in partnership with other advancement departments.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a small portfolio of 50 high-level annual giving donors. Assist in the identification and cultivation of potential major gift donors.
- Travel to meet individually with 50-60 constituents per year for the purposes of engagement, qualification, volunteer management, and stewardship.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and work experience in related fields.
- Four or more years of development experience
- Experience in a successful and comprehensive annual giving program in an educational setting preferred.
- Superior communications and strategic skills and a strong grasp of industry best practices.
- Knowledge about the use of digital approaches and technologies in support of solicitation and stewardship programs.
- Capacity to respond with insight, tact, and sensitivity to the concerns of colleagues, donors, and volunteers.
- Superlative interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization. Strong personal integrity and work ethic, as well as a sense of humor and perspective.
- Facility and ability to use technology adeptly.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Google Suite, Microsoft Applications, and platforms like Constant Contact, Hustle, and Give Campus preferred.
- Work is conducted primarily in an office environment. Hybrid and remote work arrangements are considered for those who are within driving distance of campus.
- Occasional bending, reaching, stooping.
- Repetitive motion (use of computer keyboard).
- Periodic need to carry boxes (up to 50 lbs.), move tables and chairs, hang signs, and other similar tasks for events.
- At events, periodically, a significant amount of time standing/walking.
