Gift Planning Services — Associate Director of Gift Planning Services
Job Overview
  • Work with the Director of Gift Planning Services in the promotion of planned gifts, and gift and estate planning services to Wheaton College donors, and in the support of Development staff in promoting and setting up planned gifts to the College.
  • Reports to the Director of Gift Planning Services (Director) and may assist the Director in supervising the Gift Planning Services Office Coordinator.
  • From 16-32 hours/week
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director and the Regional Directors of Development (RDs) in presenting, explaining, and closing planned gifts with specific planned gift prospects. (Primary planned gift tools and services: Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Unitrusts- both lifetime and testamentary, utilization of Wheaton College Trust Company as an agent (Executor, Trustee, Power of Attorney for Property) for donor’s estate plans, retained life estate in residence or farm with remainder interest to Wheaton College, Estate Analysis with focus on tax reduction strategy linked to charitable giving)
  • Assist the Director in providing pertinent Gift Planning knowledge and talking points to the RDs who use that information to engage their key contacts who live around the county. Associate Director and Director will provide this information to RDs in one on one meetings as well as group meetings.
  • Assist in planning and administering the program of providing estate planning analysis to the College’s high net worth donors and monitoring the results of such estate planning analysis in the implementation of testamentary (gifts at death) and intervivos (gifts during life) planned gifts.
  • Assist Director in planning and administering the program of providing general estate and gift planning seminars for constituents of Wheaton College, and monitoring the results of such seminars in the implementation of testamentary and intervivos deferred gifts.
  • Maintain a travel schedule necessary to accomplish points 1-3 above. (will be further defined based on availability and number of hours worked/week)
  • Participate in planned gift marketing efforts. Stay abreast of planned gift marketing trends and ideas, write marketing pieces, and provide strategic marketing input to the Director and the Advancement Marketing Specialist. Conceptualize new ways of outreach, best practices to follow up, and ways to assess effectiveness of marketing.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining, reviewing, and preparing legal documents relating to gift planning, including model trust agreements, gift annuity contracts, and life income agreements.
  • Assist the Director in the ongoing professional training and education of Development personnel involved in soliciting or accepting planned gifts from individual donors.
  • Assist Director in advising the Advancement Division and Investment Department on legal issues affecting gifts to the College, and the administration of such gifts.
  • Maintain College charitable solicitation registration as required by certain states including keeping track of deadlines, providing information to outside vendor, reviewing vendor’s submissions, confirming certifications with state, and College General Counsel.
  • Study and stay current on laws relating to estate and gift planning.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor or similar degree
  • Previous exposure to gift planning or estate planning
  • Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills
  • State law license
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Physical Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
