Job Description Summary
The Dean of the LaFetra College of Education at the University of La Verne invites applications for a 10-month open rank, non tenure-track (clinical), faculty position in leadership from candidates with a record of outstanding contributions to the field of Education Leadership through visionary and successful leadership as a practitioner in the field, preferably as a senior-level administrator in a public school district or a community college, such as Superintendent of Schools or President of community college districts. We seek to recruit colleagues whose work bridges theory, research and practice to address the challenges of leading organizations. The proposed start date is July 1, 2023.

Specific Duties
The Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Professional Education will be actively involved in a leadership role, dedicated to excellent teaching and advisement of graduate students, and engaged in high levels of service to the profession. The Clinical Associate Professor is expected to partake in an aspirational culture emphasizing excellence in education outcomes, a strong commitment to equity and social justice, and continuous improvement through innovation and critical reflection. Our mission for leadership programs is rooted in a commitment to developing scholarly practitioners as leaders and architects of change who make significant contributions to the organizations and communities they serve. The candidate will teach courses; chair and serve as a member on dissertation committees; participate in program/course planning and development; and provide professionally related service to the School, University, community, and profession. Some of the specific duties for this position include (but not limited to):
  • Teach courses; chair and serve as a member on dissertation committees; participate in program/course planning and development; and provide professionally related service to the School, University, community, and profession.
  • Lead LFCE’s office of professional education tasked with P-12 Teacher Preparation and Educational Leadership Preparation, which focuses on supporting and expanding teacher education and educational leadership throughout the state through a variety of educational modalities.
  • Create and interact with a network of leading professionals to design and implement a portfolio of non-degree Professional/Executive Education experiences in education, including industry micro-credentialing, and facilitate the development of career pathways that extend span from entry-level to advanced levels of employment.
  • Oversee program design and implementation in partnership through a team of professionals focused on the financial, operational, and administrative aspects of professional/executive education with particular attention to and the responsibility for success in both content delivery and program logistics.
  • Pursue opportunities to innovate in content and modality. Direct and facilitate market intelligence efforts, including competitive benchmarking and identification and analysis of market opportunities.
  • Recruit and retain subject matter experts to develop and deliver curriculum content. Programming must be relevant and support and align with LFCE’s vision and strategic goals.
  • Develop a funding stream for the college.
  • Help increase visibility and reputation of the college.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in educational leadership, organizational leadership, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Previous or comparable experience in program coordination/leadership is required.
  • Evidence of successful teaching, advising, and mentoring students at the graduate level.
  • Advanced working knowledge of P-12 marketplace trends and professional/executive education modalities (in-person and online).
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership, organizational planning and change management skills.
  • An ability to design for the unknown from a solid foundation in utilizing leading-edge marketing, programming and technology.
  • A results orientation in complex environments; demonstrated judgment in balancing inclusive collaboration and decisive accountability.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to achieve results.
  • Courage to challenge entrenched views and pursue non-traditional opportunities with data, insights and vision.
  • Demonstrated creativity in problem solving, critical analysis, and initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated inclusive leadership behaviors, curious mindset, humble demeanor. A coaching orientation towards the management of others.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent professional experience in P-12 school districts and/or community colleges at the cabinet level is highly desirable.
  • Broad knowledge of and experience working in a combination of higher education, executive education, online learning, leadership development in P-12.
  • Proven success collaborating with and supporting faculty.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with:
    • demonstrated knowledge of current theoretical and empirical works undergirding organizational and educational leadership.
    • demonstrated ability to bridge theory and practice for leadership students enrolled in a doctoral or graduate program, direct student applied research projects, and create and sustain positive change in school districts and related organizations.
    • proven capacity to manage an entrepreneurial environment by building fee-for-service programs.
    • Demonstrated success or the potential for success in seeking external funding and contracts.
    • proven ability to represent the university in leading national conversations about leadership in education at conferences and in the media.
