ATTORNEY ASSOCIATE

Pay Range: $31.273 - $39.091/Hourly Office of the General Counsel or as assigned
Essential Tasks: Under general direction, as assigned by the Chief Judge, presiding Judge, or other Judge, perform legal research
primarily on criminal cases including felonies that are initiated in the Metropolitan Court; examine briefs, records and legal authorities
cited; draft memorandums, orders and decision for Judges’ review and final approval; provide updated and current information to
Judges on recent decisions, opinions and changes to rules and statutes to ensure compliance with current law; draft memorandum
summaries of current law to Judges; work on pilot projects and on special projects / program with criminal justice partners, advise in
the areas of general, criminal and constitutional law; attend court hearings and meetings as necessary; may review proposed legislation
and analyze impact on court, prepare bill analyses and attend legislative hearings; participate in hiring and supervising assigned staff;
act as a liaison to the bar, litigants and criminal justice partners; maintain confidentiality and use discretion when dealing with
sensitive information. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing in particular on technical writing projects; establish and
maintain cooperative working relationships, use independent judgement with minimal supervision. May perform other duties in order

Qualifications: Education: Must be a graduate of a law school meeting the standards of accreditation of the American Bar
Association; possess and maintain a license to practice law in the State of New Mexico. Education Substitution: None. Experience:
Three (3) years’ experience in the practice of applicable law, or as a law clerk. Experience Substitution: None.

Knowledge of United States and New Mexico constitutions, federal law, New Mexico case law, statutes, rules, policies and
procedures; Code of Judicial Conduct; Rules of Professional Conduct; court jurisdiction and operations; manual and computerized
legal research; principles of legal analysis and writing, legal proofreading and editing, standard English usage and grammar; and
computer software applications (e.g., legal research, word processing, databases, court case management system, e-mail, and internet).
Working Conditions: The following functions are representative, but not all-inclusive of the work environment and physical
demands an employee may expect to encounter in performing tasks assigned to this job. Work is performed in an office or court
setting. A valid driver's license and travel may be required. The assigned work schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays and
overtime. The employee must regularly interact positively with co-workers, clients, the public, and judges and justices.
