Job Summary


The Automation Controls Engineer will primarily be responsible for the development and implementation of automation systems to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost on existing and new manufacturing processes. This position will primarily be responsible for the design, build, and implementation of the electrical and instrumentation & control (I&C) systems. A successful candidate should be familiar with designing system architectures, programming robotics, wiring 24v systems, and developing the PLC codes.


Job Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the implementation and integration of automation equipment in a manufacturing environment, and help with support of existing automation systems
  • Physical build and installation of automation equipment, including wiring of the cell DC systems, integration of peripheral equipment, and programing of robotics
  • Development, design, program and debug PLC, HMI, and robot software
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of peripheral equipment
  • Responsible for the development and training of personnel in robotic programming, wiring of machines, and peripheral equipment
  • Oversee and manage projects related to the automation process
  • Participate in the design new automation equipment or processes
  • Program new automated components to the manufacturing process
  • Develop and maintain clear, accurate documentation of automation equipment/process
  • Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment as needed when errors occur
  • Develop network of vendors and solution providers to partner with in projects as well as educating the team in up-and-coming technologies and applications


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field required
  • 5-10% domestic travel may be required
  • PLC programing in multiple brands (Allen Bradley, and Automation Direct preferred)
  • Six-axis robot programs in multiple brands (Fanuc & Universal Robots preferred)
  • Experience with HMIs, SCADA & remote monitoring systems is a plus
  • Experience with Automation Project Management
  • Ability to problem solve, and think outside of the box to find effective solutions
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings & procedural documentation
  • Organizational skills; prioritize workload, accurately documenting
