Job Title: Awake Overnight Emergency Shelter Staff

Department: Youth Crisis and Careers Services (YCCS)

Reports to: Shelter Coordinator

Status: Non-Exempt

Pay: $21 - $22/Hr.

Hours: Thursday - Saturday 11pm - 9am

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Shelter Coordinator for each program, the overnight staff provides direct residential services to individuals staying and living within our emergency shelter programs. The degree of care will differ at each program. At both facilities, staff are expected to provide residential care and ensure the safety of all residents. One of the facilities also involves a drop-in component where staff will engage with community members, law enforcement, and youth experiencing homelessness, runaway youth, social services, and the community at large.

Available shifts: Friday & Saturday (16/week) Thursday - Saturday (10 hr shifts)

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

· Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment during all program operations

· Monitor the residents and facility during nighttime hours

· Perform routine facility, back room, and bed checks

· Always maintain appropriate boundaries with all residents and drop in youth

· Perform duties required to maintain neatness and cleanliness of the facility

· Assesses emergency and medical situations and determines appropriate action notifies supervisor, police, parents, hospital, as appropriate and/or completes incident report

· Complete all necessary documentation including but not limited to, individual case files, program communication log, incident reports, etc.

· Monitor and enforce rules for each program

· Assist in following all legal and licensing regulations, and requirements for the program

· Follow all emergency procedures to ensure safety of youth and properties

· Attend all team meetings, individual supervision, and training

· Maintain professionalism when engaging with community members, families, law enforcement and social services

· Ability to input vital and confidential information into various database systems

· Adhere to strict confidentially standards

· Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· The ability to work with persons in distress who do not have healthy communication skills.

· Ability to handle expressions of and situations involving conflict and potentially agitated behavior, aimed at property, staff, clients and/or tenants

· Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal

· Maintain strict confidentiality and boundaries related to client and other Agency

· Excellent skills when it comes to engaging with youth and families when answering the door or phone

· Availability to have a flexible work schedule

· Ability to work independently with minimal direction

Physical, Environmental and Mental Requirements:

· Physical: Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, filing, etc.

· Must be able sit for extended periods, ascend/descend stairs.

· Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and plans.

· Must be able to speak clearly and understand/be understood using the English language.

· Cognitive: Frequently required to concentrate on moderate detail with frequent interruption. Must be able to attend to a task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time. Frequently required to understand and relate to specific ideas, several at a time.

· Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office and mixed (residential/office) environments. Occasional exposure to outdoors.

· Equipment: Frequently required to use a computer, phone and copy machine.
