MCS has an opportunity for Cable Technicians/Telecommunications Mechanic I for Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX.
Duties:
***This position will primarily be pulling/installing OSP fiber optic cables between buildings and manholes. As well as some installation of Sch-40 PVC pipe/trenching pathways for the fiber optic cable. Experience installing cabling in manhole systems required. Experience terminating, splicing, and testing fiber optic cable is a plus.***

• Installs, remove, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs voice and/or non-voice communications systems including intercom and public address systems, alarm systems, teletype equipment, electronic and electromechanical telephone key systems/PBAXs, terminal and communications equipment, including line drivers.
• Runs cables, lugs, pins, or screws, associated with key telephone equipment and/or terminating equipment for nonvoice circuits.
• Cable locate, maintain cable backbone, and terminate fiber and copper. Installing conduit in trenches, hand/manholes, and buildings.
• Core drill holes in hand/manholes, and buildings. Complete fiber fusion splicing, testing, and fiber connector terminations. Pull fiber thru conduit, and man/handhole systems.
• This job opportunity is specific to supporting the installation of outside plant low voltage cabling and fiber optics and inside plant network infrastructure MAC (moves, adds, changes) work.

Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in and around confined spaces and follow all related safety operations for assigned tasks.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in telephone installation including voice/data communication equipment. 5 or more years of working knowledge of Fiber Optic and Copper Cable.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related programs required.
• A valid driver's license is required.

Work Environment

• Work assignments may vary based on client requirements.
• Work may be performed inside a large facility. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
• Work may be performed in the field. Outside work may include various environmental conditions including hot, dusty, cold, wet, icy or windy climates.

Schedule

• Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
• It is important to be able to work any shift/designated hours required.
• You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work.
• Position may require night and weekend work and could include travel with the military to participate in operations/exercises located in areas with varying field conditions.

Physical Requirements

• May require climbing, working at heights and in small, confined spaces such as under raised floors, inside closets and server racks. Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel or crouch for long periods of time. Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperature than standard office environmental conditions. Lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC/laptop. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 30 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.

Equipment and Machines

• General office equipment includes but is not limited to: PC/laptop, telephone, copier, servers, switches, routers and other computer equipment that supports the network environment.
• General field equipment includes but is not limited to: hand tools, power tools, ladders, aerial/motorized lifts and test equipment.
• May require operating motor vehicles.

Travel

• Travel requirements will vary. Not all positions require travel.
• Valid Driver’s License is required to operate company vehicles.
• Continental and Overseas travel may be required. A current passport is required for Overseas travel.
