Campus Safety Officer Job at Hayward Unified School District
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, mediate disputes, monitor and patrol assigned areas and hallways of an intermediate, high school, or adult school campus to maintain order, security and safety; assist in the compliance of student attendance rules.
Mediate student/student and student/teacher conflicts according to established procedures.
Monitor and patrol assigned areas, adjacent property and hallways to maintain order, security and safety; monitor pertinent student access areas; assure timely return of students to class.
Enforce school and District rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff and property according to established procedures; lock and unlock gates and doors.
Escort students to and from class and the office; verify and issue student hall passes; report inappropriate student behavior to the appropriate personnel, prepare incident reports as required.
Intervene in fights and physical confrontations according to established procedures.
Operate a computer to access student records; operate a two-way radio.
Assist law enforcement agencies concerning students and investigations as assigned; attend school expulsion and court hearings as necessary.
Monitor and identify unauthorized visitors; assist and provide appropriate information to authorized visitors; report hazardous or dangerous situations on school property.
Assist victims and emergency personnel in medical emergencies according to established procedures; administer minor first aid as appropriate; escort emergency service personnel to the victim.
OTHER DUTIES:
Monitor after-school activities and special events as directed; conduct weekend detention periods as assigned.
Participate in training students and staff in mediation service techniques.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Monitor student behavior and communicate with parents as appropriate.
Assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations.
Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Understand and work within scope of authority.
Work independently with little direction.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of the work.
Be flexible to perform work within changing priorities and possess sufficient interpersonal skill to work harmoniously with staff, students, administrators, parents and others.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and minimum one year experience working with adolescents.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid SB 1626 Certification.

Positions in the job classification typically work 40 hours/week during the traditional school year.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
The duration of the eligibility list is 6 months unless extended by the Executive Director of Classified Human Resources and the Personnel Commission.

Hayward Unified School District does not pay for employee health and welfare benefits.
Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. Health benefit costs are 100% employee paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Employees may opt out of health coverage upon presentation of proof of alternate coverage.
Dental coverage is mandatory for all employees working 20 hours per week, or more, regardless of outside coverage. Less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The District contributes the full premium for "employee only". Any additional premium will be employee paid.
