GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Branch Services Manager, the Career Specialist provides workforce and career information, materials, and services to the Cecil County community. Develops and enhances workforce and career services in all library branches. Provides caring, non-judgmental customer service to all.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts consultations with job seekers around their workforce and career needs, including resume assistance.
  • Provides assistance to patron’s inquiries regarding workforce and career information including those with diverse backgrounds and specialized needs.
  • Attends meetings of local community networking and other events.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations on library workforce and career-related resources and services to the community and local employers.
  • Develops, coordinates and/or leads workshops and programs related to specific workforce and career development topics.
  • Develops and delivers training to public services staff on workforce and career development.
  • Assists in development and distribution of marketing materials.
  • Measures and assesses the effectiveness of services.
  • Participates in statewide initiatives, training, and networking.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Performs job in keeping with the policies and procedures of the Cecil County Public Library.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college, preferably in a business related field.
  • Within two years of appointment, each Library Associate shall have successfully completed Library Associates’ in-service training or nine credit hours of formal academic course work in library science. Such training may have been received prior to the date of appointment. Training provided by CCPL off-site in Maryland.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of workforce and career information resources.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to maintain composure and flexibility in a changing, public-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Excellent technology and computer skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows operating system, internet resources, social media and other technologies and how to use them effectively.
  • Knowledge of a variety of types of electronic hardware devices for computing, listening, viewing, gaming and new technologies.
  • Willingness and ability to acquire knowledge of library computer systems and applications.
  • Ability to analyze and perform and or manage a wide variety of library projects.
  • Valid Driver’s license.


EQUIPMENT:

Personal computer, laptop, tablets, printers, scanners, photocopier, AV equipment, book trucks.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in normal heat and light conditions with some exposure to seasonal draft conditions. Regularly travels to facilities throughout the county and state using own transportation.

SCHEDULE/HOURS:

Part-time 25 hours per week. Regular schedule includes day, evening and weekend hours. Requires flexibility to schedule appointments and travel throughout the county.
