Division of Mental Hygiene, ADULT SPOA Unit

HOURS: Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required

JOB FUNCTION:

The position in the Adult SPOA is an administrative position with a clinical component. As a team member of the SPOA unit you would be processing applications for adults with mental illness seeking an array of services, including but not limited to, Assisted Outpatient Treatment, Case management and ACT services, SPA Mental Health Housing, and/or Crisis Respite housing. This requires thorough review of the application and supporting documentation; investigation of documents; case presentations; general knowledge regarding Health Homes and resources in the mental health system; general knowledge of mental health housing in Suffolk County; ensuring court-ordered Mental Health Services are in place and that the person under an AOT order is compliant with those services.

This is a very intensive program, where the work can, at times, take on an emergent need. You will need to be organized and able to complete tasks timely and efficiently. It is necessary that you possess good communication and negations skills, and feel comfortable interfacing with agency directors, psychiatrists, hospital social workers, police, and at times attorneys and criminal justice workers. You are working as part of a team that monitors hundreds of patients and is responsible to connect people to services timely. The ability to function as part of a team is essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Processing applications for adults with mental illness seeking services such as Care management or ACT services, SPA mental health housing, Crisis Respite housing, or being referred for Assisted Outpatient Treatment
  • Maintain department files and track cases
  • Working closely with SPOA psychiatrist and assistant county attorney to prepare AOT cases for court
  • Ability and willing to assist other personnel when needed
  • Coordinates work with appropriate internal and external personnel to ensure all are properly informed
  • Maintains and ensure compliance of regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Ability to attend to detail and function independently when needed
  • Possess excellent communication skills, professional demeanor, team-orientation and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge regarding Health Homes and resources in the mental health system
  • Knowledge regarding mental health housing in Suffolk County
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
