Shelter - Child Care Worker

REPORTS TO: Director

STATUS: Part-Time, Hourly

POSTION SUMMARY: Child Care staff are responsible for meeting the needs of residents, taking into account the residents’ ages, physical and mental conditions, and other factors that affect the amount of attention indicated. The Child Care Worker is responsible for implementing the daily living program for all children in the shelter. Child Care Workers are directly accountable to the Shelter Manager and Shelter Shift Supervisor. Child Care Worker relief personnel or volunteers are accountable to the Child Care Worker on duty.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Providing residents with a safe, supportive, and loving environment;
• Provide emergency first aid as needed;
• Perform intake when resident comes to shelter;
• Maintain cleanliness of shelter;
• Preparing meals and snacks during mealtime and snack time;
• Maintain up-to-date case records;
• Supervise volunteers;
• Obtain Child Care certification, if full-time;
• Receive twelve (12) hours of in-service training each fiscal year;
• Maintain current first aid and CPR certification;
• Be knowledgeable of the Policy & Procedure Manual;
• Conduct shift change staffing;
• 24-Hour supervision of residents;
• Attend staff meetings;
• Aide and support residents in performing chores;
• Supervise recreational and leisure time activities;
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Child Care staff must possess adequate education, training, and experience to perform the essential functions of the position.

• Must be 21 years of age or older;
• CPR/First Aid Certified;
• High School Diploma or Equivalent within one year of employment.
