Children’s Ministry Director Job Description

Job Purpose

Ministering to children and families so they can be deeply rooted in the love of Christ.

Hours

This is a 15-20 hour position currently. We are anticipating this position growing as the church grows.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the children’s ministry.

• Recruit and retain volunteers for children’s ministry.

a. Maintain volunteer schedule

b. Provide training on a routine basis for all volunteers of the children’s department.

c. Organize planning events for all volunteers of children ministry

• Oversees check-in process and attendance logs of students in the children’s department.

• Assesses safety of the children’s area reporting any maintenance or safety issues to the lead pastor.

• Plan and lead weekly children’s church programs that are exciting and age appropriate (Sunday Morning, Wednesday Night). Choosing materials and curriculum to implement the weekly programs.

• Follow up with all students who make personal decisions for Christ. Connecting them with their family and lead pastor when decisions are made that need to be followed with baptism. Ensuring they have been counseled regarding their decision and baptism.

• Teaching students to study the Bible, pray and Christian basics. Instilling The Word within them by teaching memory verses, Bible stories and the love of Christ.

• Annually plan and implement Vacation Bible School and/or Backyard Bible Schools.

• Plan and lead seasonal children’s events: Ex…Easter Events, Fall A Palooza, Children’s Christmas Eve Service, Vacation Bible School

• Purchases materials needed in the children's ministry within a set budget.

• Counsel and pray with students and families.

• Be available for students and families during family or community emergencies (such as fires, deaths, wide spread impacting events).

• Be a liaison of children/family-oriented ministries in the area and the church.

• Attend staff meetings.

• Be an active part of the church attending events and functions.

• Continue to grow spiritually in Bible Study, prayer and other spiritual disciplines

Goals as the position grows:

• Represent the church and children’s ministry at Community Children’s Events.

• Be support for students as they engage in their personal activities (attend school choir/band events, dance recitals, ball games).

• Coordinate with local schools any needs they might have that the church could assist with.

• Plan and facilitate parenting classes.

• Plan quarterly Parent’s Night Outs/Kids Night In

• Bi-Monthly host and plan a Family Event to reach multi-generational levels of the family.

*The children’s ministry director will meet with the pastor at 30, 60, and 90 days for evaluation and to set goals for areas of growth in ministry.
