Church Accompanist

Job Summary: The Music Ministries at Shady Grove UMC, a mid-sized to large suburban, welcoming congregation in western Henrico County, play a vital role in helping the church accomplish its overall mission to discover and live the love of God by sharing, serving and connecting with all peoples. The Church Accompanist is a professional staff member who works under the supervision of the Director of Music Ministries to create a faith environment that musically nourishes souls; invites congregational participation; forms disciples as they use their varied gifts; promotes multi-sensory worship; and that serves Short Pump and its surrounding communities through offering worship music for up to two worship services each Sunday.

Qualifications: Commitment to Christ, a love for music, organizational skills, effective communication and consistent preparation are essential to this position. The Church Accompanist is an encouraging team player who, under the supervision of the Director of Music Ministries, facilitates harmonious and growthful group dynamics as well as harmonious music that glorifies God. A Bachelor’s degree in music is recommended and familiarity with

Traditional and Blended church music styles are encouraged.

General Job Description/Responsibilities
1. Proficiency on piano for accompanying choirs during Shady Grove worship services, which are recorded and live streamed

2. Accompany regular weekly rehearsals for sanctuary choir.

3. Accompany children, youth and adult choirs/ensembles, as needed.

4. Accompany additional seasonal worship services (e.g. Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, Confirmation and Christmas

Eve)

5. Personal rehearsal time, communication/occasional meetings with the Director of Music Ministries, and attendance at Music Ministry meetings, as needed.

6. Availability to play at weddings and funerals, for which an honorarium will be given.

7. Ability to pass a national background check, including sex offender registry check, to work with children and youth.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
