SUMMARY The Machinist will demonstrate the ability to operate multiple machines as instructed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fabricates metal parts by operating and cross training on 4-axis CNC Lathes, 5-axis CNC Wire EDM, 3-axis CNC CO2 Laser Machine and 5 axis Milling Machines.
  • Sets and adjusts machine settings as necessary.
  • Reads and interprets diagrams and blueprints to select, position, and secure machinery to ensure proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.
  • Use of Pro-Engineering /CREO Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to retrieve solid models used in the programming process.
  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, location of surfaces, machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; and indicating vices.
  • Uses various measuring instruments for machining operations, and works to difficult close tolerances (+- .001) on complex flight components manufactured from a variety of metals and materials
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting controls; replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production by using bar code work order travelers.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in education/training opportunities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 5-8 years of experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience in reading and editing G-code / M-code numerical computer programs for various Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining operations.
  • Ability to operate multiple machines, inspect parts and be able to edit offsets as required.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints, technical data and related specifications.
  • Exhibit good attendance, a good attitude and the ability to work well with others.
  • Must be eligible to work on programs subject to ITAR Regulations. Therefore, candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident ('Green Card').
  • Frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds, and occasionally handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to support overtime requirements in excess of 40 hours per week to include weekends as required.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screen and background check.
