Communications Associate – Offshore Wind

The Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY), a New York 501(c)(3) whose mission is to promote the use of clean, renewable electricity technologies and energy efficiency in New York State, is seeking a full-time Communications Associate. The primary role of the Communications Associate will be to help shape and implement the communications strategy for the New York Offshore Wind Alliance (NYOWA) - an ACE NY initiative consisting of a diverse coalition of the world’s leading developers of offshore wind generation, environmental organizations, organized labor, and academic institutions dedicated to the development of a robust and responsible offshore wind industry in New York. The Communications Associate will be responsible for raising awareness among the public, government officials, and civic leaders on the benefits and opportunities presented by a growing offshore wind industry in New York State.

The Communications Associate will report directly to the Director of Communications of ACE NY and will have dotted line responsibility to the NYOWA Director. Approximately [75%] of the Associate’s time will be dedicated to NYOWA matters with the remaining [25%] supporting the broader ACE NY communications efforts.

The primary tasks of the Communications Associate will include, but not be limited to the following:

· Preparing and distributing weekly summaries of media articles on offshore wind and the clean energy industry;

· Supporting the development and distribution of press releases heralding significant developments affecting ACE NY/NYOWA, their members, or the offshore wind industry;

· Maintaining and expanding ACE NY/NYOWA’s presence on social media, particularly LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube;

· Developing, organizing and disseminating a quarterly NYOWA newsletter;

· Managing the websites of ACE NY and NYOWA and frequently updating content;

· Arranging monthly blog posts (from ACE NY/NYOWA staff or guests);

· Coordinating and supporting events, such as webinars, advocacy events, and tours;

· Preparing ACE NY and NYOWA materials, such as posters, brochures, slide presentations;

· Other duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in communications, journalism, or a related field, as well as a demonstration of strong communications skills, both written and verbal, with an established ability to take technical concepts and make them understandable and accessible to a lay audience.

Additional desired qualifications for this position are:

· Attention to detail and deadlines, and ability to work with limited oversight

· A collegial and pleasant demeanor, and ability to work well with others

· Experience with website maintenance and graphic design

· Experience designing and implementing social media campaigns and purchasing online advertisments

· Experience interacting with reporters and media outlets

· Experience with Meltwater or Mailchimp

· Demonstrated interest in the clean energy industry sector

The position will be based in Albany at ACE NY’s headquarters offices, but a remote arrangement would be considered for the right candidate.
