Community Service Officer I Job at Gettysburg College
Gettysburg College is seeking a part time/casual Community Service Officer 1 (CSO1) to work on an as needed basis in Campus Safety. These positions will assist other departmental members in fulfilling the expectations of the organization’s mission.
The typical schedule for this position is Saturday and Sunday, 8:00am to 4:00pm. Hours and days may vary in accordance with the needs of the Department to include weekends, holidays, events, and required training.
CSO1s are primarily assigned as campus patrols and additionally perform a variety of security / public safety duties including event security, enforcing laws and campus rules for campus administrative judicial purposes, and protecting lives and property within the campus community. Campus Safety is an unarmed and nonsworn security agency.
The Gettysburg College Campus Safety is a Community Partnership organization. Building relationships with the college community is an essential part of CSO duties. CSO1s are often the first contact the campus community will have with our department. Successful candidates will understand customer service principles, conflict de-escalation, diversity, and basic community policing concepts.
Entry level CSO1s are not required to have prior experience. Training will be provided. This position is an excellent opportunity to enter the Campus Safety industry.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong personal integrity and reliability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A demonstrated ability to interact with others in a manner consistent with the high ideals of integrity, leadership, and respect.
- Willingness and ability to be an active contributor to procedurally just campus safety services is paramount.
- Willingness and ability to engage with the public and Gettysburg College’s diverse student population with a focus on community and customer service.
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one at time of hire.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in campus safety/security or law enforcement.
- PA Lethal Weapons Act (PA Act 235) Certification.
- Certifications in baton, pepper spray, CPR/AED/First Aid, Community Oriented Policing, or other related training.
