A Day in the Life
You will start your day by updating the Competitive Intelligence (CI) Framework for network security since a new version of a competitive firewall has been announced this week. You’ve met with product management to get aligned on the new capabilities that have been released, understand their importance, and elaborate arguments for any features that are relevant. Then you’ll spend time updating the cross-vendor NetSec competitive chart and battle card.
In the weekly product launch meeting, you will present the new updates to the marketing team, and explain how the many great features released in the most recent versions of our network security products are used for optimal competitive positioning. You refer the team to the updated NetSec CI repository and/or content hub for additional resources. Then, you draft a company-wide communication and arrange to train the sales team at an upcoming Firesync session.
In the afternoon, we meet with the CI team to share our first version a platform-wide analysis versus a target competitor. Your contribution is crucial to this team deliverable, including win-and-loss analysis at the NetSec and platform/vendor levels. You’ll finish your day by reviewing the latest 3rd party independent evaluations (AV-Comparatives, MITRE, etc.), media evaluations and reviews (ITPro, etc.), analysts’ reports (Canalys, Gartner, Forrester), and peer reviews (G2, GPI, TrustRadius). Our competitors’ and our results in performance, effectiveness, and usability will be critical aspects to highlight in the battle cards or as input to other teams.
About the Position
- This Competitive Intelligence Analyst role is tasked with gathering, analyzing, and distilling information about WatchGuard’s competitors for network security products and platforms, including:
- Deliver competitive research/evaluation.
- Distill competitive arguments where WatchGuard wins against competitors as input for marketing, sales, and presales teams.
- Distill trends on competitors’ capabilities as input to product management
- Create and continuously update the CI content: Cross-vendor NetSec analysis and competitive charts (internal and distilled) and the NetSec battle cards.
- Create and maintain an internal repository of our competitors' documents, guides, posts, websites, and other information sources.
- Collaborate with the other CI team members in creating and maintaining CI at the platform and vendor levels.
Position Responsibilities
- Create and update the Network security framework of critical features, capabilities, and benefits that Network security products must provide and could optionally provide as differentiators in the market Network analysis and competitive chart skeletons (internal and distilled).
- Collect and analyze internal and external data on our Network security products and competitors’ products to build an accurate cross-vendor network analysis chart (internal).
- Distill the analyzed data into arguments and benefits to update the sales-faced cross-vendors network competitive chart (distilled) and battle cards.
- Analyzing data to determine which competitors’ products and capabilities pose the greatest threat to WatchGuard Network Security product line.
- Develop reports that include trends for improving products based on research findings, industry trends reviews, changes in the legal and compliance environment, and technological innovations.
- Monitor 3rd party validations/evaluations to provide updated information on the effectiveness, performance, and usability of our competitors’ products and ours.
- Preparing presentations about market research findings for upper management.
Skills and Qualifications
- Understand the technical sales process and able to work closely with sales engineers and other sales staff.
- Have a deep knowledge of the network security market. Understand the more valuable capabilities, competitors, and differentiation factors and be able to evaluate and compare them across vendors.
- Able to explain technical concepts in written and verbal forms that make the value clear to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Analytical mind and highly capable of distilling conclusions and arguments from raw data
- Advanced user of PowerPoint and Excel, webinar specialist, and experience with Salesforce is a plus
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in the network security market in technical roles, such as product manager, product owner, sales engineer, technical support, QA, and testing for a cybersecurity company
- Willing to travel 10%
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Compensation
The base salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000, exclusive of benefits. This position is also eligible for a bonus of 5% of the base salary. Your base salary compensation will be based on your individual skills, education, and experience. Please keep in mind that the above range is the full base salary range for this role; hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical in order to allow for future salary growth.
