We currently seek a Development Engineer to join our division located in Avon, CT, and help support our continued business growth.

This position is responsible for designing and developing new specialty fibers and manufacturing processes and for providing technical support to product management, engineering, production, and application engineering.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Research and New Product and Process Development

• Contribute to the process with Value Stream Management/Marketing in seeking and understanding customer/market needs for new product and platform technology development
• Contribute to the collaboration with Labs colleagues and other partners in New Product Development
• Propose, plan, lead, or contribute to development projects for technology, product, and process.
• Contribute to long term fiber R&D planning and road-mapping
• Contribute to IP generation and present technical and technical-marketing papers at technical conferences and tradeshows

Fiber Engineering

• Design and costing for RFQ process.
• Contribute to fiber engineering activities in production support
• Provide support in product management activities
• Interact with customers to understand how our customers are using our products and provide insight and directions to development team to help position our development correctly. Working seamlessly with TRE team, design initiate and execute plans and projects in AE.
• Support efforts to resolve customers’ complaints

Technical Support

• Coordinate customer validation and qualification for product being developed
• Establish and maintaining effective channels for technical exchange between customers’ technical team and our development team
• Provide technical expertise and training to sales and business development teams
• Attend and represent OFS in standards committees
• Contribute to new product launch and after launch review

Key qualifications include:

• PhD, MS or BS in a fiber optics related field and extensive knowledge and firsthand experience in applications of fiber optics.
• Solid technical background in fiber optics and its applications
• Excellent writing, presentation, and oral communications skills
• Experience in effective customer support
• People skills to work with development team and sales and marketing teams to achieve our business goals
• Project management experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 5-10% of the time.
