ROLE SUMMARY:

The Director of Ballistic Research, Design and Development is responsible for all soft ballistic pack design, development, testing, and certification. The scope includes both military ballistics as well as law enforcement and public safety sector ballistics certified to the National Institute of Justice Requirements. Certification requirements operate under firm deadlines and testing standards for the business, therefore the ability to manage time effectively while dealing with a variety of issues in a dynamic environment will be key to the success of this individual.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research existing and new materials for application in ballistic designs.
  • Work with subcontractors and suppliers in the investigation of ballistic material performance.
  • Oversee the build and test sample ballistic packs for potential development and sale
  • Oversee the trial and final certification testing of all ballistic packs
  • Review all contract specifications for contract ballistic requirements and assure contract requirements are met
  • Oversee all lot test sample builds and selection and review test results.
  • Write necessary contracts for certified and sample test laboratories and provide project management duties for those contracts.
  • Interface with customer personnel regarding ballistic requirements, performance and related issues.
  • Perform all ballistic analysis of test results and predict test results.
  • Interface with sales personnel regarding ballistic requirements for company products.
  • Develop, maintain, and control all ballistic build sheets.
  • Interface with Operations and Quality personnel to assure ballistic specification and requirements are met during production operations.
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4-year college degree in Engineering or other Technical field strongly preferred
  • US Military or Law enforcement experience is preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and employment history
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast paced and changing work environment
  • Above average computer skills
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Travel required up to 25%


Work Environment:

This job is done in both an office setting and at other locations. The position may be remote within the Eastern U.S. with expected occasional travel to Armor Express or supplier work locations.
