Candidates with a Structural, Construction, Architectural, Industrial and Mechanical experience in modular design and production will be given high priority.
SUMMARY:
- Due to growth, hiring a Director of Engineering and Design, this is a leadership position supervising Drafters, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.
- Oversees engineering and technical design of industrial engineering, generally optimizing the complex processes and systems to minimize waste. Manages communication and coordination among different types of engineers working on a project. Supervises project schedule, budget, and communications with stakeholders.
- Mechanical engineer managers are responsible for the overall management of the mechanical engineering department, including both administrative and technical aspects. They also serve on project teams and as a lead engineer under the general direction of a project engineer
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES/SKILL SET:
- Lead complex projects with multiple disciplines
- Coordinate releasing drawings and designs for purchasing/manufacturing
- Interface with Project Managers and customers to resolve questions and issue accurate deliverables on time and on budget
- Responsible for formalizing work plans and directing their implementation
- Assigns work to his team to meet overall project deadlines while dealing with emerging issues
- Must be detailed oriented and be able to precisely follow customer specifications and industry codes.
- Coach employees by creating a shared understanding about what needs to be achieved and how it is to be achieved
- Recruit, select, and provide proper orientation for new employees; communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, appraise, and review employee performance
- Enforce policies and procedures
- Develop Bills of Materials (BOM) to itemize all the components of the mechanical design
- Provide phone support and technical assistance when asked by our installation crew or customers
- Evaluate the training needs of the Mechanical Engineering team and plan for continued improvement, considering turnover, retirements, and rotation requirements
- Perform calculations using various software packages including ELITE/RIVAT/AutoCAD, implementing internal, customer, and standards requirements
- If needed travel to customer facilities to resolve and evaluate interface requirements between existing buildings and new designed buildings
Additional Management Responsibilities:
- Handle mechanical engineering activities and document control staff.
- Hire engineers as per needs defined on staffing forecast.
- Support mechanical engineers, designers, and drafter to projects as per task needs and skills.
- Review mechanical engineering staff performance periodically.
- Inform technical staff of Division and engineering goals and business performance.
- Handle engineering tools and upgrades.
- Check ME deliverables of PD process and ensure achievement of quality standards.
- Review detailed mechanical design.
- Oversee and mentor mechanical design and CAD modeling in Pro-Engineer.
- Comply drawings with applicable standards before approval.
- Plan work to ensure accounting for suitable ME deliverables.
- Support methodical root cause analysis and resolve non-compliance in part performance.
- Coach jobs, counsel on career and develop team members.
- Develop needed infrastructure to ensure Mechanical Engineering Competency.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- An architectural background is ideal.
- Experience in management of engineering and design teams is required
- Building inspection and Mechanical engineers with HVAC experience is a plus.
- Must be self-motivated, display leadership abilities, have knowledge of Architectural layouts, MEP designs, and code compliance. Must have Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design.
- Must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering
- Ten years of related experience is required
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word
- Proficient in AutoCAD Revit
- Experience in custom modular buildings a plus
- Industrial a background a plus
- Must have previous experience managing a mechanical engineering team
- Ability to manage people and motivate them to maximize their productivity
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent mechanical and technical skills.
- Proficient with computer-assisted design (CAD) software, ELITE, RIVAT highly preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
