We are looking for a qualified, part-time candidate who can assist in providing forensic consulting services with electrical engineering expertise for a range of different client types. The consultant in this position will be tasked with evaluating and determining the cause and origin of electrical failures and related damage, providing verbal and written reports, and providing expert testimony for multiple, concurrent projects.

Essential Job Functions

  • Effectively communicate with clients about work scopes and budgets for projects.
  • Performs forensic investigations and analysis within the field of electrical engineering.
  • Failure analysis, cause and origin of damage, compliance with codes and standards, etc.
  • Evaluate existing, failed electrical components or systems for determining appropriate repair.
  • Extent of damage, cause of damage, compliance with codes and standards, etc.
  • Prepare written forensic reports that include technical detail and analysis to answer our clients questions.
  • Manage multiple projects with multiple clients simultaneously while maintaining good communication and meeting client deadlines.
  • Work with other technical experts or Rimkus team members to completed projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Use codes, standards, accepted practices, laws, and other regulatory information.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.

Required Education and Certifications

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering degree or higher.
  • P.E. required.
  • G.C. license is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Must have high level of analytical skills. Work requires continual attention to detail with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with clients at all levels (e.g. internal and external).
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including but not limited to, Microsoft Office Applications and computer assisted engineering and design software.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical reports or journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to clearly and coherently write scopes-of-work, budget estimates, schedules, reports of findings, proposals, general correspondence, and other technical documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from internal and external clients.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information to top management, clients, public groups and/or boards of directors

Physical Demands, Remote Working Requirements, and Travel Requirements

Physical Demands - Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside field locations (i.e. Client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to walk through fire-damaged properties (i.e. commercial and residential) for full and proper assessment of electrical-related damage. Employee is also required to stand, walk on slope roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics and crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee will be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.

Remote Working Requirements – This position is open to any candidate living in NC or SC. There will be times when office attendance is required (local offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Charleston).

Travel Requirements - This position requires up to 25% travel. Out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
