The team you’ll lead:
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the Operational Efficiency team reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team of engineers delivering quality code while maintaining productivity in a supportive environment. You will partner closely with Product, Design, and Data to meet objectives.
The Operational Efficiency team is focused on making Brightside’s operations and member support more manageable and efficient. The team builds tools and services to support many internal teams such as Finance, HR, and Credentialing as well as other Product+Engineering teams to ultimately drive efficient and outstanding care delivery to our patients.
What you’ll be doing as Engineering Manager:
- Mentor, manage, and grow a team of senior, full stack engineers.
- Create an atmosphere of support, flexibility, and collaboration, where everyone feels their talents are fully applied and reflected in our product.
- Spend, on average, 20% of your time coding, to maintain an objective, first-hand perspective aligned with that of your team.
- Define and champion quality of code and velocity of development.
- Work with leadership to provide a career growth path for every engineer.
- Work closely with Product, Design, and Data to ensure your team is delivering value aligned with our objectives.

- Small, frequent releases to production to maximize value, get fast feedback, and identify bugs early.
Requirements:
- At least 6 years of full stack web development experience; preferably experience with Rails and React.
- Experience in a Team or Tech Lead position
- Managed teams of 5 or more direct-reports for at least 3 years.
- High degree of empathy and compassion and a strong conviction towards concrete outcomes for both your team as a whole, as well as each individual.
- Thrive in fast-paced environments with tight feedback loops and continuous delivery.
- Comfortable working in a 100% remote environment.
Preferred Requirements:
- Built/supported HIPAA-compliant (or other similarly regulated) applications.
- Product management experience.
- Worked in a startup that’s grown from 20—>200 employees.
