Overview

Participate as a member of the Environmental Affairs Team as an Environmental Specialist, conducting annual refresher and new-hire environmental training, attending and assisting with Pillar Team, Learning Team, and environmental meetings, collecting water samples and compiling associated data and reports, conducting compliance inspections/audits and compiling associated reports, and assisting in the administration of applicable environmental laws, regulations, permits, and internal policies at all Mississippi Lime Company facilities throughout the country.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in environmental studies or related field preferred.

Experience: One to three years of experience working with environmental laws, regulations, permits, and policies, and/or conducting environmental training.

Certifications: US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Awareness Training (40 CFR Subtitle C); US Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Training (49 CFR 172.704); and opacity training preferred.

Knowledge: Environmental laws, regulations, permits, and policies.

Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Abilities: Ability to quickly learn, use job-specific technology, and assess and compile environmental data. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% of the time and spend at least 70% of work time in a plant environment, conducting inspections/audits, conducting environmental training, collecting water samples.

Behaviors: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for working with and training all levels of employees and constituents required.

Essential Functions

Provides assistance and support for implementing and sustaining regulatory compliance initiatives.
Supports Oil Pollution Prevention regulations and Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan requirements by conducting SPCC-related inspections and Plan updates.
Assists with water permitting and compliance through implementation of Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SWPP) Plans, conducting required water related inspections, collecting water samples, compiling water sample data, and assisting with water report preparation.
Conducts waste-related inspections, maintains/creates standard waste disposal procedures, and signs waste manifests and bills of lading.
Assists with air quality permitting and compliance by conducting required inspections and observations.
Collects water samples at assigned Mississippi Lime facilities and compiles associated data.
Assists with Underground Injection Control permit compliance by conducting water well gauging and sampling as required.
Serves as the Environmental Pillar Team representative and participates in all meetings and initiatives.
Supports and leads Environmental Learning Team activities associated with environmental incidents at facilities.
Monitors environmental standards and controls for mining, production operations, and distribution activities, including up to daily facility tours/audits. Identify areas of opportunity and propose solutions.
Utilizes incident reporting and tracking system to document environmental incidents and corrective actions and generates reports for management.
Conduct in-person and/or virtual environmental training at assigned Mississippi Lime facilities (includes annual refresher training and other relative subject-matter).
Updates environmental training presentations and program as appropriate.
Updates environmental “Green Books” at assigned Mississippi Lime facilities.
Travels to Mississippi Lime facilities, and attends training courses, environmental meetings, and environmental conferences.
Employees are expected to perform other responsibilities as needed and assigned.
