PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform fire suppression and fire prevention duties and other related duties as required. The person in this classification reports directly to the Fire Chief.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates fire trucks, pumpers, hoses, and extinguishers during fire suppression and/or rescue operations knowledgeably.
Tests and maintains fire detection and suppression equipment.
Inspects and prepares fire pre-plans for buildings, grounds, and facilities.
Maintains fire station buildings and facilities to ensure safety and efficiency.
Participates in fire drills
Assists in training other fire fighters.
Administers first aid and assist EMS as needed.
Inspects, services, tests, and maintains fire hydrants and automatic sprinkler equipment.
Performs the duties of higher-classified positions in emergency situations or as part of staff training and development programs.
Conducts fire safety education classes.
Performs related duties as needed or required
Serves as a backup for subordinate staff as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Age 18 or older; No Felony conviction within previous 10 years; Possess and maintain Valid GA drivers license; Must posses or achieve FF1and CPR certification and upgrade to Class F drivers license within one year of employment.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (20-125 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
