This is a 2023 Summer position.

Fish Camp Lead is to help develop, oversee, and execute all programs that take place at the Cushman Fish Camp during the summer season while working to maintain a fully functioning and pleasant area.

Responsibilities:

• Under the direction of Conservation & Ecology Director, lead a team of staff in delivering safe and exciting fishing programs
• Be able to provide fishing instruction and help to a variety of skill levels in both youth and adults. This includes knots, unhooking fish, proper casting, in addition to gutting and cleaning
• Help effectively train staff in both their fishing and teaching skills
• Help lead the setup, take down, and general maintenance of our fishing areas
• Ensure that all merit badge and class paperwork is filled out accurately and timely before being submitted online and delivered to the program office
• Ensure that all Fishing Staff are effectively teaching the curriculum and, safe practices
• The Fish Camp Lead will also be responsible for teaching classes in the area
• Assist the Ecology & Conservation Director in updating curriculums, documenting changes, maintaining inventory lists, and submitting end of season final reports
• Assist the Ecology and Conservation Director in resolving any staff disciplinary matters
• Carry out and enforce the policies and procedures outlined in the Summit Bechtel Reserve Staff Handbook
• Participate and exhibit Scout Spirit at camp-wide programs and daily activities
• Any other duties as assigned by full-time staff and/or direct supervisor

Qualifications & Training:

• 18 Years or older by arrival
• Strong fishing skills preferred
• Is comfortable teaching in a classroom style fashion in addition to on the fishing docks
• Good organizational skills
• Some management experience

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand out in the sun for long periods of time
• Has a good sense of balance for when working on the floating fishing docks
• Must be able to perform swimming and water rescues (swimming, bending, lifting, etc.)
• Must meet the Summit Bechtel Reserve's high adventure height/weight requirements as laid out in the Summit BSA Health & Medical Record.

Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform

• SBR blue polo or BSA Field Uniform (Scouts BSA, Venturing, or Sea Scout)
• Shorts/Pants should be of the appropriate length/size/appropriateness for a Scouting setting.
• Shoes should be closed-toe, neat, and clean. No wild colors.
• One-piece bathing suite.
