General Purpose of the Position: The purpose of the non-sworn City Hall Security/ Front Desk Officer is to provide professional, quality service to city residents and the general public while receiving and processing non-emergency calls and requests for service made by the public in person or via phone call. Work involves directing incoming calls to the right department (when necessary), directing walk-in customers to the correct department, answering general questions from the public, maintaining a security presence in City Hall, locking and unlocking doors at the start and end of the business day, and setting up and utilizing metal detecting equipment for City Council meetings. Additionally, this position may occasionally be asked to fill in at the Front Desk at the Bradenton Police Department in the event a staffing need arises. The duties and responsibilities listed below are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for positions in this class and may not include all of the essential job functions. Work may involve sensitive customer service contact involving the use of extensive verbal communication and listening skill to gather essential information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Accurately, quickly, and courteously receive incoming telephone calls or in person requests

· Operate telephone and switchboard and minor use of the Windows Operating System

· Maintain written and/or computer logs and records

· Serve as an information resource to the general public and provide requested information through additional resources

· Act as a liaison between the police department, City Hall, and the general public

· Participate in job-related training sessions and seminars

· Maintain knowledge of police procedures

· Maintain prompt and regular attendance

· Conduct security checks for attendees to City Council meetings

· Perform related work, as assigned

Skills and Physical Abilities Required:

· Knowledge of and ability to understand, retain, and follow City of Bradenton rules and regulations

· Knowledge of and ability to understand, retain, and follow Bradenton Police Department General Orders

· Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, and tactfully with respect to the constitutional rights of others

· Ability to react quickly, calmly, and appropriately under emergency conditions

· This is office work in a confined area. Manual dexterity to operate computers and other office equipment is required

· Proficiency in office equipment and Windows Operating System, and an ability to adapt to other software programs software programs with ease.

Education and Experience Required: Preferred previous experience working with a law enforcement organization as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer or Corrections Officer; or sixty (60) credit hours with an accredited college in the field of Criminal Justice or Forensic Science. Must be a United States citizen or possess a resident green card. High school diploma or GED equivalent required. On-the-job training will be provided.

Preferred:Bilingual skills desired.

Special Requirements: Typing, polygraph, psychological exam, medical exam, urinalysis/ drug screen, and background investigation. Candidates must have a willingness and ability to work shifts, including the occasional night shift.

Environment Conditions: Indoors (in an office environment) and rare occasions outdoors (in a variety of weather conditions). Candidates must be able to work closely with others.
