     Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
    
 
    
     The mission of the division of Student Success is to work in partnership with the University community to deliver high quality services to facilitate the recruitment, retention and graduation of a diverse student population and also strives to provide service, leadership and transitional student support for UNCG. The division of Student Success is committed to designing, implementing and providing the services necessary to promote student success throughout the entire student life cycle from day one to diploma. This division includes the offices of Student Success Initiatives, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, Students First Office, Academic Achievement Center, Completion Initiatives, TRiO Programs, UNCG Guarantee, and Multiliteracy Centers.
    
 
   
     Position Summary
    
 
    
     GEAR UP North Carolina is a college access initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education and designed to increase the number of first generation, low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. The GEAR UP Success Coach will work with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and GEAR UP NC to support first year college students from target high schools. This will be done through high quality, high touch coaching, providing accountability, and facilitating successful personal development. Coaches are expected to complete various coach training programs, engage in observation and debrief processes, and complete certifications while developing and fine tuning the art and science of coaching. The GEAR UP Success Coach is also expected to encourage interest in postsecondary education and build support for student success. The Coach will report to the Associate Vice Provost of Student Success/Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The GEAR UP Success Coach and university supervisor will have the GEAR UP Access and Success Manager as their point of contact with GEAR UP NC.
    
 
   
     Minimum Qualifications
    
 
    - The GEAR UP Success Coach must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience working with high school and/or college-age students.
 - Knowledge of college services including financial aid and degree completion activities is a must.
 - The candidate must demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and also show strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
 - The successful candidate must be willing to use a cell phone for work-related activities and be willing to travel.
