The Governmental Audit Specialist position requires a highly motivated and experienced individual to perform routine duties associated with the Governmental Audit Team of the Compliance Department including data entry, processing of mail, preparation of audit information, and correspondence with CMS contractors as needed.

Essential Functions:

Essential Functions

  • Assists with data entry and computer related skills
  • Communicates and handles incoming and outgoing electronic communications on behalf of Manager(s)
  • Manages multiple projects at a time and follows through on issues in a timely manner
  • Maintains confidentiality appropriate to the departmental activities/functions
  • Responsible for mail and fax disbursement within the Government Audit Department
  • Fields questions from field locations as appropriate
  • Assists the Manager as needed with copying and computer related skills
  • Processes the intake of initial medical records requests and prepares for audit
  • Assists auditors with gathering of documentation and financial claim information
  • Identifies denials of payment and prepares claims for appeal
  • Communicates with CMS representatives on behalf of the department
  • Follows up on outstanding review/appeal decisions
  • Processes and distributes incoming mail
  • Uploads documentation into a working database system
  • Adheres to all departmental policies and procedures
  • Performs similar comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned- assists with other areas of Compliance Department as needed
  • Submits documentation to CMS for pre-billing approval
  • Maintains access to CMS contractors' eServices site to obtain decision letters related to RCD
  • Processes RCD related decisions as appropriate and updates claim billing statuses
Education & Experience:

Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: 6 months

License, Registration, and / or Certification Requirement: No

  • Medical billing/collections
  • General use of software systems
  • Data entry

Skill Requirements

  • Ability to navigate software systems easily
  • Ability to accurately and efficiently enter data into multiple types of systems
  • Possession of exceptional interpersonal skills and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and use adequate judgment skills knowing when to ask questions
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change and efficiently work on multiple projects at one time
  • Must be a team player and be willing to assist in other areas of the department as needed
