Goldbelt GPS is seeking Healthcare Technician
People staying in homeless shelters may have an increased risk of respiratory illness. This project will help inform infection control and prevention measures for respiratory diseases in homeless shelters in Anchorage, Alaska. The purpose of this project is to understand the transmission of respiratory diseases such as COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in shelters in Anchorage, Alaska.
Project Time Frame: October 2022 to March 2023
Participants: People who are staying in shelters in Anchorage and who have respiratory symptoms (like coughing, runny nose) will be eligible to participate.
Project activities: The project team will interview potential participants. Participants will provide consent to participate and can opt out at any time. The interview will include questions about symptoms and a possible medical chart review. A nurse will use a nasopharyngeal (NP) swab to take a respiratory specimen from the participant.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform nasopharyngeal swabs on participants.
- Collect and interpret participant information. Data entry may be required for reporting.
- Provide timely, routine reporting on participant flow and volume as required.
- Establish and maintain constant communication with the point of contact (POC) at the CDC and/or Program Manager.
- Establish and maintain strong situational awareness about their role and project goal.
- Manage and maintain accurate records for data collection analyzing.
- Facilitate calls, meetings, and other communications relevant to the scope of the project.
- Respond to requests of the CDC in a timely manner.
- Report a summary of daily activities in team meetings and/or written report.
- Follow care regulations and standards.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in office and medical software
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work calmy, professionally in high pressure situations
- Empathy and patience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work on their feet for long hours
- Previoius nasal swabbing experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Nursing (preferred)
- At least two years or more of nursing experience
- At least two years or more nursing training
- Experience working with the homeless population
