HIM & Medical Records Director
Dover Behavioral Health System has an exciting position within our Health Information Management Department. We invite applications for the position of a HIM & Medical Records Director to join the Universal Health Services, Inc. family. The successful candidate will leave the HIM and Medical Records fuctions for Dover Behavioral Health System located in Dover, DE including:
- Maintain medical records of patients in accordance with federal and state legal requirements and The Joint Commission standards
- Supervise the activities of the HIM Department, including overseeing the chart audit and clinical pertinence functions Responsible for the daily operation of the Health Information Department
- Responsible for planning, maintaining and implementing policies and procedures that are in compliance with the strategic direction of the facility
- Supervise and perform release of information functions to protect the confidentiality of patient records and provide education to all staff as necessary to keep confidentially at all times
- Upon hire of new staff within the facility, orient all new clinical staff and physicians to basic charting principals and timeliness of documentation
- Participate in Performance Improvement functions for the hospital and perform monthly physician reports to analyze the timeliness of certain medical documentation to include the discharge summary, psychiatric evaluation, and history and physical’ Profile the physician and submit to the Medical Staff credentialing file
- Serve as the facility Privacy Officer and is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the facility’s privacy policies and procedures regarding the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) and for compliance with the HIPAA Privacy Rule; Conduct investigations and partner with the corporate Privacy Officer on all suspected breaches and reporting obligations and collect all documentation relating to suspected breaches at the facility
- Manage the facility’s Patient Advocate and the Patient Advocacy function for the hospital

Job Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Health Information Management from an Accredited Medical Record Technology Program certified by the American Health Information Management Association
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required; Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred
- Two years’ experience as Director/Manager in a behavioral health medical records/HIM setting
- Demonstrated understanding of Joint Commission Standards
