Job Summary :

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Director is responsible for providing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Assist the Chief Development & Infrastructure Officer by positively impacting Atlantic Sapphire’s safety performance against Zero Harm targets for both, leading and lagging indicators. The HSE Director is responsible for delivering and overseeing safety training, metrics and communicating safety results against set goals and objectives on a monthly basis. The role works in close partnership with management to strengthen the organization’s existing program and create new, innovative approaches to ensuring safety across the company. The Safety Director is also responsible for maintaining knowledge required knowledge of applicable Federal OSHA, FDA, and EPA regulations.


Job Description :

Core areas of responsibility are:

  • Assertively manage the Company injury management process to reduce TRI’s and injury severity.
  • Provide value added HSE shared services and guidance to management on injury prevention and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist management in driving the operational implementation of Safety strategies and initiatives in a way that builds a Company-wide safety and compliance culture.
  • Reliably and consistently assert yourself as the business expert in data collection, reporting, document control, regulatory/industry compliance, HSE training, action tracking, systems, etc.
  • Execute the Health, Safety and Environmental work plan and recommend projects; facilitate work and resolve problems.
  • Mentor and coach site management and personnel in key HSE processes.
  • Collect, analyze, and present HSE data and actions as required to comply with established standards and expectations. Act as the HSE Mission Control Representative.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate the actions of the Zero Harm Council.
  • Develop and implement inspection program for all areas of the company and communicate results in a timely manner.
  • Regularly inspect the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Annually conduct audiometric testing and industrial hygiene monitoring.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for all recordable injuries.
  • Partnering with department management, maintain an effective system for identifying, reporting, tracking, trending, and acting upon violations of Health & Safety laws, policies, or standards of conduct, to minimize the risk of unlawful or improper conduct and to protect the Company’s reputation.
  • Recommend disciplinary or corrective action in response to violations, as appropriate, to management.
  • Consider modifications to policies and procedures to reduce the likelihood that similar violations will occur and make changes as appropriate.
  • Identify and monitor developments and trends in legislation and regulation related to industry OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Evaluate the impact of changes and partner with department leaders to make appropriate changes to policies, standards, processes, and practices.
  • Ensure continual improvement to the Health, Safety and Environment program.
  • Maintain awareness to all work-related injuries and illnesses, including root cause analysis and follow up training as needed.


Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in the field of Health, Safety and Environment required, or any combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough regulatory knowledge including OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards applicable to the operation.

This job operates in a combined office and farm/production and construction environment.
