Health Unit Coordinator HUC Job at Riverwood Healthcare Center
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides clerical support to the healthcare team and is responsible to initiate, maintain, and disposition the medical record. Manages the desk area by answering phones, call lights, and directing patients and visitors. Completes provider orders in EMR, schedules appointments, and prepares discharge/transfer paperwork.
This position provides care for or assistance to patients of all ages, including newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education (GED) degree; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Through training and/or experience, must have knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly nurse’s station.
Manages the desk area, directs traffic, answers patient call lights and informs nursing of patient requests.
Accurately processes physician orders and is proficient in the electronic medical record.
Assemble charts for new patients and files charts at time of discharge.
Obtain charts from Health Information Services as requested.
At the direction of the RN, assists in preparing information for patient transfers to other facilities, and completes required forms.
Updates forms, files new forms, and discards out of date forms.
Requisition supplies designated by nursing staff. Orders office supplies. Obtains needed supplies from storeroom as requested.
Schedule tests and makes appointments for lab, x-ray, PT, specialty clinic, etc.
Answer telephone and EMS Communications radio. Provides information or relays messages to patients and medical staff
Maintain effective communication with the nursing staff, employees from other departments and other health care facilities.
Works together with nursing team to complete/document TCM calls.
