Job Summary
To coordinate and supervise housekeeping activities and to maintain the high standards of the Environmental Services
Department.
Job Duties
Provides Safe Clean Environment
  • Assures staff utilizes equipment, supplies and warning signs to ensure clean, safe environment.
  • Provides leadership in emergency codes and situations; remains calm under stress
  • Acts as resource regarding hazardous materials spills re MSDS information
  • Uses proper body mechanics; requests assistance in moving heavy equipment and assures staff follows same procedures
  • Labels cleaning products and assures all products used by staff is labeled appropriately.
  • Assures staff maintains infection control standards and utilizes appropriate PPE.
  • Maintains clean orderly environment; assigns immediate response to clean spills
  • Assures staff operates all equipment safely and competently, troubleshoots common problems, and assures equipment is returned cleaned to designated area after each use logging equipment in and out following procedure.
Routine Procedures
  • Directs performance of routine floor care and project work and cleaning activity
  • Ensures distribution of clean linen and par levels meet the need for the facility
  • Conducts random inspection tours to ensure cleanliness quality
  • Completes CQI reports and turns them in to the Director by the 3rd of month
  • Orders supplies to meet the needs of the department
  • Directs the performance of terminal cleaning
  • Assures staff collects infectious/noninfectious waste and linen transporting safely
  • Reports incomplete assignments or need for services to oncoming shifts
  • Provides leadership by setting example for assembling all needed supplies and equipment prior to each assignment.

Accountability

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of Team Leaders, Environmental Services Aides I, II, III, Supervisors and Laundry Service Aides acts as resource and liaison between director and staff
  • Supports director in managing resources by assisting with: development of cleaning and laundry schedules, and assist with the planning of the overall floor care schedule of the facility and ancillary buildings.
  • Completion of payroll
  • Interviewing, evaluating, counseling, and disciplining as indicated control of man-hours and supply budget
  • Orientation and training of all new employees and assures team leaders are trained in all areas to meet the needs of the hospital documentation of supervisory activities
  • Supports management decisions; assists with problem identification and resolution; keeps director informed of pertinent information
  • Provides employee schedules in advance
  • Works independently with evidence of time management; prioritizes job assignments appropriately; consistently meets deadlines/schedules
  • Set up and conducts departmental meetings
  • On occasion may visit and 3rd shift employees to monitor productivity and cleanliness
  • Performs other duties as needed
  • Will assist with preparation of budget
Experience:
Five to seven years of supervisory experience is desired. Previous experience in healthcare facility housekeeping is preferred with excellent computer skills.
Certification:
Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional CHESP or willingness to obtain certification and/or Certified/Registered Executive Housekeeping with International Executive Housekeepers Association.
Essentials:
  • Must be able to report to work fit for duty and free of any adverse effects of illegal drugs, medical marijuana, prescription medication, and/or alcohol.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.
