POSITION SUMMARY
Voices For Independence, a prestigious Center for Independent Living,with offices throughout Western PA is seeking an Independent Living Assistive Technology to coordinate and provide peer support and other services to individuals, families, and the community requesting the assistance of the independent living center.

This is an exempt (salaried) position that includes travel throughout the service area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Provides encouragement, and support to consumers in pursuit of their personal goals. Assists consumers in the process of understanding themselves and their environment through active listening.
Assists consumers in taking control of their own lives to meet their personal goals and to avoid unnecessary and/or unwanted segregation apart from the community.
Engages consumers in on-going one-on-one or group discussions of goals and concerns, such as personal areas of lifestyle, civil rights, ambition, experiences, frustrations, and desires in a manner that increases their network of resources for problem solving.
Promotes community awareness of the independent living philosophy and advocacy through the provision of news releases, trainings, guest speakers, and newsletters. Promotes the use of community as an accessible, user-friendly platform for addressing the needs of people with disabilities.
Collects and gathers data for reporting purposes.
Completes informal financial and needs assessments.
Investigates and refers consumers to resources in the community.
Records and documents direct services, including advocacy services. Maintains familiarity with services available to consumers, including eligibility requirements and appeal procedures.
Performs outreach activities to inform other entities and the general public of the independent living movement.
Serves as an IL consultant to the other agencies, organizations, programs, and government entities.
Recruits and trains peer mentors for other people with disabilities in the CIL's service area.
Provides information to other entities on barrier removal related to community living.
Collects, reports, and distributes data to IL Supervisor.
Collaborates with NHT staff, peer mentors, AAAs, nursing facility staff and administrators, and other service providers and stakeholders to identify and serve consumers who wish to transition.
Provides training to consumers related to consumer service records, skill development, and tapping into personal strengths and environmental resources.
Provides support that increases the consumer's appreciation for cooperation with other people with disabilities for mutual help.
Participates in conferences, staff meetings, in-service trainings, and committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Computer skill, including but not limited, to word processing, spreadsheets, data entry and email.
Reasoning ability and mathematical skills
Must be able to travel
