Position Summary:

Be part of the gateway to the extraordinary natural resources of Alaska! Work hands on with rugged native plants or unique mammals of the region, or put your scientific curiosity to use in our labs collecting and analyzing natural resources data! Explore Alaska's ag & horticulture, health & community, 4H, and natural resource management in the Insitute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE). Duties:

Find the perfect student job at IANRE! Locations are availabbe through the state; most are in Fairbanks, Anchorage or Wasilla. Students may wrok up to 20 hours per week during the academic year. Suring the summer, students may work up to 40 hours per week. Please specify the position of interest and desire number of hours per week when applying.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

All Positions
Ability to communicate effectively and work with a diverse clientele
Ability to work independently on routine responsibilities
Must be able to plan, organize and execute a variety of tasks simultaneously

Laboratory Assistant:
Some or all of the following: Valid driver's license; Ability to lift 40 lbs; Ability to follow detailed instructions; Ability to work independently; Ability to accurately collect and record data; Plant identification skills; Ability to perform repetitive tasks; Knowledge of plant biology; Knowledge of Laboratory research; Computer data entry skills.

Land Use Surveyor:
Ability to interact with various audiences such as the public, supervisor, grant sponsor; Knowledge of recreation management; Accurate and efficient data entry skills; Attention to detail; Ability to work outdoors in inclement conditions.

Horticulture:
Knowledge of basic gardening and greenhouse techniques and use of hand and power tools. Ability to work independently and with others, perform repetitive tasks, work outdoors regardless of weather. Knowledge of plants, greenhouse management, landscape construction and horticulture field production techniques. Knowledge of Macintosh computer and software a plus. Experience with spreadsheets. Ability to correctly and accurately gather and record data.

Office Assistant:
Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and equipment; Working knowledge of software such as Google Docs and Sheets (or Word, Excel and Adobe); Computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, internet and email; Basic clerical skills including accurate typing and filing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing; Good communication skills; Ability to pay attention to detail; Good organizational skills; Ability to follow directions; Ability to maintain confidentiality and ability to communicate clearly, courteously and tactfully with the public; Ability to perform moderately strenuous physical activity such as moving boxes and handling large mailing tubes

Reindeer Program Farm/Field Assistant:
(Any semester) This position could be assisting at the farm located at UAF, including maintenance and upkeep of facilities and animals. This position could also include some field assistance located on the Seward Peninsula, including maintenance and operation of ATV, boat, snowmachines, and data collection. Ability to perform moderately strenuous outdoor activities including lifting up to 25 lbs.

Typical Experience:

Sufficient to perform the job duties outlined in the job posting.

Required Education or Training:

Must be a current University of Alaska student enrolled in 6 credit hours or more
