Fairfax Public Access (FPA) is an independent, non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation founded to manage the public access channels and production facilities provided for Fairfax County residents. Major funding for the services provided by FPA comes from Cox Communications of Northern Virginia and Verizon FiOSTV.

Part-time independent contract instructor opportunities

Fairfax Public Access, home of Fairfax County’s public access channels 10, 30, 36 and 37, has several part-time instructor openings for our July - December 2023 courses. Based on availability, successful candidates will also be considered to teach future semesters courses and become part of our regular instructor team.

FPA offers a wide variety of production related training courses to our members, from pre-production planning, production equipment training, to post-production editing and graphics workshops. For consideration, candidates will need to demonstrate their understanding of television studio production techniques and/or post-production software. Please note that the equipment skills required vary depending on the curriculum topic but we are looking for candidates that can instruct students in the proper operations and functions of our various production equipment. Candidate must be comfortable working with the public, highly organized and have previous teaching experience.

Seeking instructors for the following FPA courses:

Studio C (NewTek TriCaster and virtual set studio): This class is designed to teach students how to operate our state of the art “virtual set” studio and become certified in all major technical crew positions found in our studio C facility (Technical Director, Audio Operator, CG/Graphics and Teleprompter operator). A major component of this course is learning the operation functions of the NewTek TriCaster system and control surface.

  • Course 1: Thu. 7pm-10pm on 9/7, 9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12
  • Course 2: Thu. 7pm-10pm on 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, (no class 11/23), 11/30, 12/7, 12/14

Adobe Audition Fundamentals: In this workshop, students learn the basics of digital recording, audio editing, and processing, as well as mixing voice with sound effects and music- using the industry standard Adobe Audition CC program. The class is designed to teach the necessary skills to edit radio shows or creating audio promos. Furthermore, students gain an understanding on how to prepare audio files for podcasting or web purposes.

  • Course 1: Fri. 7pm-10pm on 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25
  • Course 2: Fri. 7pm-10pm on 11/17, (no class 11/24), 12/1, 12/8, 12/15

Pay: $27.00 - $31.00 per hour
