General Overview of the Position
Under general direction of the IT Manager, performs work of considerable difficulty in administering information technology resources, which provide information services to all city departments. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of City Network, including all system hardware and software, and enforcing all system related policies.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Server 2019, 2016, & 2012, Windows 10 and Windows 11 and Exchange 2019 system administration to include:
- Installs operating systems software, database management systems software, application software, and utilities.
- Monitors and tunes systems software, peripherals and networks. Resolves system problems.
- Installs new users, creates batch administration scripts and runs systems backups.
- Runs diagnostic tests and recommends network improvements.
- Coordinates with outside vendors to specify and purchase hardware, software, and related equipment and services.
- Software support for Public Safety specific applications including but not limited to:
- Spillman
- Intergraph
- TraCS
- NetMotion Software VPN
- Zoll Fire RMS
- Implementation and support for citywide local and wide area networks.
- Implementation and support for network security policies and procedures including the implementation and support of firewall and authentication services.
- Knowledge of and support for CJIS and NCIC Security Requirements
- Provide support for microcomputer software, and hardware questions and problems
- Provide support for IOS software, and hardware questions and problems
- Install PC’s, network hardware, operating systems and application programs.
- Setup and manage cradlepoints using NetCloud
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires an Associate Degree in Computer Science or equivalent major, and the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Three or more years of system administration experience.
- Completion of applicable vendor certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, etc).
- Experience with the specific network operating systems and applications used by the City.
- Ability to design and implement local and wide area networks of machines.
- Experience implementing network security policies and procedures including the implementation of firewalls and authentication services.
- Experience in voice and data communications.
- Experience in computer hardware and software support and problem determination.
- Available for off-hours support including weekends and holidays.
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of explaining procedures in writing or verbally.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $64,658.00 - $77,000.00 per year
