Leadperson - Sewer Line Maint

SUMMARY:
Under the supervision/guidance from Sewer Program management, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a work crew. The incumbent installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs sewer collection systems. Responsibilities are performed under normal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.

1. Oversight of a construction crew involved in the excavation of trenches for repair and installation of water or sewer mains or service lines.
2. Transports equipment to and from the job sites.
3. Cleans, service equipment, and maintain vehicles to the department standards.
4. Responds to calls as required outside normal hours.
5. Lead, Mentor, and train crews on the repair and instillation of sewer lines, manholes, and sewer mains.
6. Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
7. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
8. Regular attendance and timeliness is required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Skill in the proper use and operation of equipment for assigned work areas.
2. Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.

5. Ability to effectively communicate with staff and with the public.
6. Ability to follow all District rules, regulations, and policies.
7. Ability to work a two-way radio/cellular phone.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in the utilities field is necessary.
  • The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
o The incumbent must possess or obtain within one (1) year of appointment a Class “A” CDL driver’s license.
  • Problem solving, speed and accuracy are required to perform the duties of this position.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear. Occasionally sit; use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must also stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, distance and peripheral vision. Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also required. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions and is required to work near moving mechanical parts. The incumbent is also exposed to non-weather related extreme heat or cold. The incumbent is also at risk of electrical shock and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
