SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Log Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of the Log Yard. Working under the directions of the General Manager, this position supervises, coordinates and accomplishes assigned tasks to safely and effectively supervise efficient log deck operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises, trains and coordinates activities of workers within the log yard

Maintains a safe and efficient working environment

Manages log yard inventory

Optimizes overall log yard layout to achieve maximum utilization and volume efficiency to minimize log yard costs

Ensures log yard operations comply with all federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

The Log Yard Supervisor is a key member of operations and reports to the General Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

Managerial or Supervisory experience

Interest in working outdoors in the fresh air

Wood Products background preferred

Knowledge identifying log species and grades

Forklift and Log Yard Equipment Operation is a plus

Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Excellent organizational skills; provides strong leadership in the areas of safety and efficiency

SAFETY REGULATIONS

Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.…as required

Do not enter restricted areas

Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly

Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge

Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating.

Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers

Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling and lifting with your legs and not your back
