Oak Plains is located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, Oak Plains Academy offers psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents ages 5–17, struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. The Oak Plains Academy campus features a full-size gymnasium, separate academic building, and four dormitories. Our wooded campus provides an excellent opportunity for outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, softball and basketball.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the physical plant buildings, grounds, equipment and utilities. The Maintenance Technician will address immediate operational safety concerns, perform tests, inspections and preventive maintenance of facility equipment with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility and the ability to work with a diverse group of people across our hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visually inspects and test machinery and equipment
- Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
- Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
- Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Installs and repairs minor plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, toilets and valves.
- Installs and repairs minor electrical fixtures, such as outlets, switches and ballast.
- Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
- Inspect, maintain records and provide minor service to facility vehicles.
- Fabricates and repairs doors, benches, partitions, shelves and other wooden structures.
- Maintains lawn equipment.
- Performs water treatment and maintains data records as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum 3 years practical experience in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general building, general equipment maintenance.
- Associates degree in related field may be substituted for experience with certification in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general building, general equipment maintenance.
- Current Drivers License
- At least 21 years of age
- Must have basic mathematical aptitude and exceptional troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities to be able to identify problems and make recommendations for corrective action with all mechanical and electrical systems and equipment.
