Title: Maintenance Apprentice (Varies) Location: Ochlocknee, Georgia Department: Maintenance Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor Summary: Maintenance Apprentice is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment associated with operating the plant while developing skills of journeyman operator. • Responsible for plant equipment greasing. Assists and conducts repairs in mechanical systems, mobile equipment and physical structures. • Generate necessary work orders and checks completed maintenance work.

Performs simple welding tasks. • Dismantles machines or equipment, replaces defective parts in motors, and adjusts feed mechanisms. • Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, and gears. Replaces or repairs machine belts.

  • Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines. • Connects wire to motors, fixtures and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses. • Keeps areas clean and free of clutter. • Observes all safety rules and regulations.
  • Work maintenance call in’s. • Performs other tasks as assigned. Qualifications: • Must understand all safety requirements and other communications. • Must possess ASSOCIATES DEGREE or DIPLOMA in a Maintenance Related field (Preferably, Industrial Electrical or Industrial Systems Technology).
Current Oil-Dri teammates who have demonstrated mechanical skills in current position and attain the Southwest Georgia Technical College Manufacturing Maintenance Certificate will also be considered for this position. • Must meet the requirements for the Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test and score a minimum of a Level Four on the Work Keys Applied Technology assessment. • Must demonstrate basic computer skills. • Must meet hands-on requirements within two years.

  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and act on product specifications, SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures), PWI (Process Work Instructions), AIQ processes, and similar documents. • Must demonstrate mechanical ability. • Basic industrial electricity knowledge. • Willingness to attend classes and seminars to enhance mechanical skills.
Physical Requirements: • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift. • Must be able to frequently carry up to 50 pounds frequently. • Must be able to withstand operation of geared equipment and heavy physical labor. • Bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, walking, climbing stairways and ladders frequently.

  • Must be able to work at heights of 100 feet or greater. • Must be able to hear radio and telephone communication. • Must be able to function in the required role while wearing appropriate PPE including, but not limited to: Safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask, protective coveralls, and pother as may be required by a hot/cold, dusty, loud industrial environment. • Good oral and written communication skills.
