Starting Salary: Starting $57,418 - $80,280, depending on experience (only fully credentialed applicants with prior experience will be considered for upper ranges).

SUMMARY: Mid-year start, January 2023

The position of Multiple Subject Teacher is employed by John Muir Charter School (JMCS) and is responsible for classroom instruction of youth and young adults participating in the Success Center of San Francisco's (SCSF) YouthBuild program in San Francisco. SCSF and JMCS’s innovative education programs are designed to provide youth, ages 16-25, with an engaging educational experience that meets individual needs. JMCS combines direct instruction, project work, credit recovery, life skills, work readiness training and other academic experiences into a highly personalized classroom setting alongside the SCFF work training program. Most students work 30 hours per week on projects away from the center, and attend classes 10-12 hours per week.

The classroom is a self-contained class; the instructor facilitates all academic content. JMCS provides curriculum and support, and the instructor is held responsible for creating a dynamic, engaging, rigorous, and supportive experience for our students. This full-time position will be supported by SCSF vocational and life skills instructors, career coaches, case managers and various other SCSF staff. JMCS staff work on site work collaboratively with the SCSF staff to support the success of the students. All JMCS staff are engaged in the classroom; providing direct instruction, small group instruction, support for credit recovery and administrative support.

The position is full-time on site, 5 days per week. This position is expected to be an active and cooperative member of the SCSF and JMCS communities. See below for anticipated work schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Prepare monthly and weekly lesson plans for all courses.
  • Be able to teach all levels of core high school subjects, especially mathematics and English from basic remedial levels up through standard high school level curriculum.
  • Commitment to the SCSF program models and to incorporate practical learning experiences related to job readiness, life skills and leadership.
  • Coordinate with SCSF staff and be a strong team player to ensure comprehensive, synchronized services.
  • Attend all required JMCS professional development days and director meetings.
  • Conduct culturally relevant classes appropriate for students coming from many cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and economic backgrounds and incorporating students’ experiences into learning.
  • Communicate regularly with JMCS and SCSF leadership and appropriate staff of academic and non-academic issues that affect student progress
  • Incorporate college and career planning into regular classroom practice.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress on standardized assessments
  • Perform duties associated with attendance and record-keeping.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability to engage disenfranchised young people from "at-risk" conditions in meaningful, interesting and creative learning experiences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in developing class and individual learning plans for students.
  • Dedication to the basic philosophy of emphasizing the core curriculum and commitment to the vision, mission, core values and philosophy of JMCS and SCSF
  • Be able to integrate leadership development in the classroom and empower youth through knowledge, literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability to effectively use educational technology, on-line learning platforms & curriculum.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Education or any related field.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

· California Multiple Subject Credential preferred

· California Single Subject Credential in any subject eligible

· English Learner Authorization (CLAD or other) or ability to obtain one required

· University Interns in Multiple Subjects welcome to apply
