The Residential Nurse is responsible for the oversight of all nursing practices and procedures related to an individual’s plan of care in accordance with OPWDD’s regulations and Little Flower’s policies and procedures. The Residential Nurse is responsible for ensuring that all nursing services as required by OPWDD and Little Flower are both qualitative and regulatory compliant. The Residential Nurse will provide training and support to Direct Support Professionals in all nursing clinical and administrative procedures. Part of the Residential Nurse’s role includes communicating with and advocating on behalf of the individuals to doctors, practitioners, clinicians, family members, etc., in the community towards diagnosing conditions, developing plans of care and evaluating responses. The Residential Nurse is essential in working with Little Flower’s administrative team to develop and implement effective and collaborative policies and procedures and quality of care. The Residential Nurse is an on-call position and all Residential Nurses must participate in a shared on-call schedule for Little Flower’s OPWDD residential programs.


Essential Functions

  • Conduct internal audits of medical policies, procedures and systems to ensure regulatory compliance as per OPWDD and all Little Flower policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Respond to all emergent situations
  • Consult with doctors, clinicians, etc. to ensure optimal medical treatments are provided to people being supported
  • Work closely with clinicians to plan best course of treatment for maximum health of people being supported
  • Ensure certifications are up to date for all medical staff
  • Provide telephone triage as needed
  • Be available 24/7 for on-call support via agency phone
  • Participate in a shared 24/7 on-call schedule for nursing staff.
  • Provide training and in services for DSPs
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings and attend all meetings, committee/specialty, and provide feedback to staff
  • Provide AMAP training and/or recertification as well as any person-centered medical training needed to ensure the health and safety of individuals being supported to DSPs.
  • Ensure health, safety & welfare of individuals
  • Travel to different locations throughout NYC and Long Island is required

Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and NYS Nursing License required
  • Valid driver's license is required to conduct site visits to multiple sites/Residences
  • 1-3 years of OPWDD nursing experience preferred.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among teams by communicating information; responding to requests, building rapport & participating in team problem-solving methods
  • In-depth knowledge of OPWDD/legal regulations and best practices in healthcare
  • Great communication, verbal, written and people skills are required

Travel Requirements:

This position may require travel throughout Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island. It may also require periodic travel to LF’s Hauppauge office and trainings/meetings in Manhattan. A valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle are needed.
