Operations Manager

Position Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for direct supervision of the manufacturing supervisors and Tool Services. The operation manager will oversee assignment of work throughout multiple departments. They will be responsible for ensuring that safety, quality, and work standards are followed to meet industry and customer standards. Leads in the development and implementation of operating procedures to ensure consistent safety, quality, delivery and cost goals are achieved. Leads continuous improvement strategies and assists with business and budget forecasting.
Scope/Supervision and Interaction:
Supervises Primary, Secondary, and Tool Service department.
Essential Functions:
  • Manage multiple departments to ensure safety, quality, delivery and cost requirements are followed.
  • Implement and oversee performance metrics, including productivity, efficiency and utilization. Responsible for all production related status updates and reporting to leadership.
  • Initiate, implement and report on cost reduction strategies and productivity improvement projects.
  • Drive Lean initiatives through the operation and ensure full implementation and effectiveness.
  • Supervise employee workflow, assignments and training throughout production departments, including lean, safety and Kaizen. Working with supervisors and training to keep skills cross training matrix active and up to date.
  • Manage department priorities and ensure that work procedures, quality standards and on time delivery schedules are met.
  • Evaluates production related issues, facilitates root cause analysis and provide effective solutions and standardization to increase productivity to help meet organizational goals.
  • Perform incident investigations in coordination with Human Resources and EH&S Manager
  • Oversees employee scheduling and overtime requirements based on customer, business and production needs. Manages overall attendance and performance standards for assigned employees.
  • Oversees all facility and equipment/machine related performance, maintenance, and purchases; oversees applicable licenses and permit requirements and renewals.
  • Lead production meetings and presentations.
  • Responsible for the performance management and staffing needs of the employees within the assigned departments.
  • Ensure effective employee relations. Provide coaching and development. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution and work with management and human resources regarding performance management issues.
  • Makes staffing decisions, interviews, trains, evaluates performance, and development of new and existing employees.
  • Maintain and upgrade capability, capacity and equipment within the division
  • Layout the plant and equipment for optimum product flow
  • Develop and maintain an effective organization through the selection, training, compensation, and motivation of all employees
  • Encourage utilization of employee recognition programs
  • Create and monitor manufacturing budget
  • Interact with customers to assist with problem-resolution
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical related field or business discipline is required
5-7 years of related experience in a manufacturing production environment preferred
3-5 years of prior managerial or supervisory experience preferred
3-5 years of experience with 5S principles/methodology, Lean manufacturing preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Ability to apply intermediate to advanced mathematical concepts
Knowledge of computer software/applications for MS Office and ERP systems

Job related demands (i.e. physical, travel):
  • Occasional travel for meetings or training (4-5 times per year)
  • Flexibility to alter work schedule for timely completion of projects
  • Prioritization of multiple projects to meet operational goals
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintenance of professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional associations
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 35 lbs. without assistance and occasionally up to 50 lbs following company safe lifting protocol
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in an environment with powdered metal, dust, noise, oils and chemicals
