The Golf Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day golf operations. Position reports to the General Manager.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Minimum 2 year of managing multiple employees, demonstrated strong management and leadership skills
- Minimum 2 years of golf operations experience

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise Golf Operations
As Golf Operations Manager, you will be responsible for implementing department’s operating plan. The items below provide the basic framework for your professional responsibilities, departmental initiatives and personal performance.
Guest Experience & Pace of Play
Assure that all golf operations staff approach every encounter with guests in a friendly, service-oriented, hospitable manner. Create an atmosphere on and off the golf course that is welcoming, friendly and warm. Manage guest expectations by providing timely and relevant information about their round of golf. Manage pace of play and staffing levels to provide consistently positive guest experience. Routinely survey guests for comments. Respond to complaints in a timely manner and advise General Manager about appropriate corrective actions taken.
As pace of play is one of the top 3 influencing factors in guest experience, you will ensure our pace is consistently within our predetermined time frame. You will ensure that our policy is understood by all members of staff and guests. The player assistants are to manage pace in accordance with the current pace policy and given hourly pace updates to the golf shop. Interactions with guests are to be clear, polite and within predetermined policies.
Financial Component
Work with the accountant and general manager to ensure all financial information and invoices are processed on a daily or weekly basis as required. Be accountable for all cash handling in golf shop and at the range. All daily deposits must be verified and deposited in the safe for daily collection by Brinks. Be accountable for accurate tee sheet set up and TSR coding on both tee sheet and electronic version. Enthusiastically implement the sales of all programs and initiatives.
Staff Management & Scheduling
Provide training materials, checklists and on-the-job coaching to ensure staff are fully trained in the position(s) that they were hired to fulfill. Enforce dress code policies daily. Perform 90-day evaluations to ensure the employee understands and meets expectations. Resolve all performance issues in a timely appropriate manner in compliance with the progressive discipline policy and company policies. All staff must to be motivated to work and assist in creating a friendly professional environment throughout the facility.
Be accountable for staffing in accordance with budgetary and operational needs. Outline projected scheduling needs one month in advance. Provide weekly, detailed schedules based on rounds forecast one week in advance for approval. Publish staff schedules in timely manner and personally ensure that changes within the week are communicated to those affected.
Tournament Coordination
Tournaments are a major revenue contributor and deliver highest revenue per round. You will work directly with Sales Manager and Event Coordinator to provide the highest level of service to group events and attend weekly BEO meetings. You will be in attendance for all major events. You will be responsible for providing adequate staffing and superior day of event service for the tournament coordinator and customer during all events.
Instructional, League & Handicapping Programs
You will oversee the promotion, scheduling and coordination of leagues, weekly clinics and summer junior camp instructional program. Oversee NCGA Handicap Associate Club.
Golf Shop, Cart Fleet & Facility Presentation
Ensure that the shop is presented in an organized, clean and customer friendly manner at all times. Maintain appropriate merchandise, manage inventory levels, use effective pricing and ensure that all items are entered into system upon arrival at property. Be accountable for loss prevention. Expect to spend a minimum of 30% of your time in the Golf Shop, working with guests, merchandise and staff.
Work in conjunction with Golf Course Superintendent to maintain a clean and safe cart fleet. Regularly review the facility with the eyes of a guest to ensure a tidy, clean and safe environment both inside and outside of the building. On a daily basis, ensure that loose trash items around property are removed. Regularly review conditions on the golf course, alert the Superintendent and General Manager immediately about changes to conditions.
8. Practice Facility Responsibilities
Oversee guest usage of Practice Facility with adequate staffing and supplies. Maintain a safe environment. Ensure that range drop is completed nightly.
9. Facility Representation
Represent the facility with superior hospitality skills, a positive outlook, enthusiasm, and respected leadership qualities. Your demeanor and images directly impacts our guest’s perception of Palmer Golf, the Presidio Trust and golf professionals at large.
10. Facility Team Involvement
Facilitate positive, smooth and complimentary interdepartmental interactions. Maintain an open, willing and positive attitude while contributing to results driven management team.
11. Perform all other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires a variety of working situations. Some days will include 100% of time on your feet in the golf operation while other projects could require 50% sitting at your workstation.
Requires ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Requires ability to lift up to 20 pounds and seek assistance for heavier loads.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoor as well as outside in all weather conditions.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT
Computer, printer, facsimile machine, phones, copier, telephone, other office equipment, golf carts, range picker, power washer and various other golf operations equipment.
EXPECTATIONS
- Provide exceptional guest service to all tournaments and daily fee play.
